Peter Dixon: I am of course referring to the DTR94 series, I just forgot to add the number.

Jon Hill: Have you turned RF2's power on? this done on the installation menu accessed by pressing "services" then in a smooth sequence 4-0-1-select" (sometimes 0-0-1-select) then 4, and a procedure which is always more successful if NOT looking at the screen whilst pressing the buttons.

If though you have the power activated then is the new coax link in one continuous length? and if so what's the approximate distance involved? as Sky HD boxes are known to be much more critical to cable length over standard Sky boxes, and eyes not working isn't exactly an uncommon complaint.

Another point is, have you tested the eye straight into the back of the RF2 socket just to ensure that it works, obviously for the test having temporarily covered (with a towel or similar) the Sky boxes pick up eye.

Guy: Considering the age of the box its a wonder that its power unit is still working, or of course maybe its not! as the symptom you report is usually displayed when power supply to the tuner drops under a certain level.

That said, have you tried resetting the box? this achieved by removing the mains plug and leaving it about 30 seconds or so before reconnecting it to the mains supply again, then once it starts responding to the remote control letting it go through its lengthy "searching for listings" procedure.

If this procedure fails to resolve the issue then another thing it could also be is that your dish has been moved a fraction out of line by recent high wind, and with no-one no matter how experienced they may be being able to detect this without the aid of a meter as it only takes the slightest of movements to knock out the signal.

If you can access the dish try giving it a slight nudge (tap) one way or the other in its horizontal plane.

John: If you are using a standard Sky box then there really isn't any reason for this having happened other than the possibility of programme data having been corrupted, I suggest that you try resetting the box by removing its mains power supply and leaving it sitting for about 30 seconds or so before reconnecting it again, then once it starts to respond to the remote control let it go through its searching for listings procedure, and once completed punch in 105.

John: Meant also to add, that in some odd cases its not unknown for a programme channel on exactly the same transponder as others to vanish if any water has crept into the LNB plug at the dish end, but its a once in a blue moon sort of thing albeit that a number of years ago a relative of mine had this happen, so I have witnessed this effect for myself.

Helene Widmer: As you are located at only 3 miles away from the transmitter it would be very easy to suffer problems caused by an excessively high level of signal, so if you are not already doing so you should try a test using a set top aerial and carrying out another retune with this installed, giving an update on the results.

By the way, if you cannot access a set top aerial then a short piece of with (about 12") pushed into the inner part of the aerial socket should be suffice for a test.

Tina: You do not require a card to use an old Sky box albeit that you will not be able view Pick TV, and of course your BBC news will default to London and not regional.

By the way you cannot use it for "Freeview" which requires a normal aerial, and you will still require the box to be connected to the dish.

Natasha: You should check to make sure that the scart lead between both devices hasn't came out slightly so make sure they are fully seated, also by you being located at only 3 miles away from the transmitter its very possible that your box is suffering from an excessively high level of signal and that type of situation can trigger all sorts of odd problems to occur, so maybe you could indicate what type of aerial you are using.

Digital switch-over problems | Switchovers

klb107: I feel that your suggestion regarding purchasing a new PVR is the only effective way out of this problem, as this stuttering, skipping and jumping on playback problem is as you have probably discovered a well known about problem, and with the software updates that were released only having a very limited success, and to be quite frank about it not worth the sheer inconvenience of having to download them into the PC and then transferring into the PVR via an RS232 lead.

Its unfortunate as the menu system used in these chassis is about the most user friendly of any PVR and even puts the technically superior Humax to shame, thankfully though an updated version of the menu system used in them has been retained and is used in the much later Vestel chassis Hitachi 325 model (320gb) as sold by Argos, two of my relatives having purchased these a while back and which have so far proved to be faultless in operation so, something which I am rather pleased about having recommended these models to them.

Trisha: What model of Goodmans are you referring to? and when you select BBC on EPG 1 or 2 what happens?
