rob: Going by that said you have really done as much as you can on this issue, although the problem as I see it is that the Virgin engineer who comes out to check your neighbours installation "might" not find anything wrong with it, nor is he (or she to be PC) likely to be carrying around the gear necessary for detecting it.

To be perfectly factual about it, about the only positive way of determining if your neighbours equipment is responsible for the problem or not is by them temporarily cutting the power supply to the equipment being used whilst you carry out a C60 check on the Sony.

Dave B: Cards used for the purpose of viewing Sky's subscription programmes are matched to the serial number of the box being used at the time of registration, this being the reason why the card will not work if any attempt is made to use it in another box.

If your Mum was intending to use the replacement box on a permanent basis then if Sky was notified of this they would change the access number programmed into card to suit the new box, this being done via an over air download.

As far as upgrading is concerned Sky+ boxes require two input feeds from the dish, this generally meaning that the LNB will require to be changed over to a quad version (twin types are no longer available) and with a second cable being run from the dish to the receiver.

Ben: Please also note, that as from last Monday (27th) engineering work is being carried out at both the Angus and Durris transmitting stations and as such anyone viewing from either of the two may possibly experience random breaks in transmission or periods of lower than normal signal quality.

Mike: What you have reported is inclined to suggest that a fault has developed on your box, therefore I would suggest that you carry out a "factory reset" or whatever term is used by the box suggesting the same thing, once completed follow this with another Freesat scan and where you will be requested to enter your post code, this for the purpose of enabling you to view the correct news channels / programmes etc for your area.

If you experience any problems in carrying this out then please supply the model number of the device in question.

Ron Hammond: Please to see that the reset procedure mentioned has enabled you to rectify the problem.

By the way, the only reason for a post code having been requested is because it enables access to information such as the reception predictors as well as a more detailed version of the terrain indicator of the ground levels between the transmitter and a persons location, as some types of problems can be experienced if the line-of-sight is obstructed and simply knowing an area that a person resides in is not really accurate enough.

lucy lilley: That's maybe so, but the UK covers a large area therefore its essential to know where a person is located, this preferably being given in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby, e.g: a shop / Post office etc.

Rob : What you have reported as far as your contact with Virgin is concerned is not really anything different from what I expected that it would be.

Keep us updated though!

Viney Prakash / Dave Lindsay: I would just like to confirm that this channel can indeed be recorded if having been previously "manually" tuned in using a boxes Non-Freesat tuning mode, my particular test being carried out on a Humax Foxsat PVR which offers a Freesat / Non Freesat tuning mode option.

By the way, the full tuning info is 11.343 Ghz - V - 27500 - 2/3

Viney Prakash: If you manage to acquire a normal DVD or HDD recorder then you could record this programme channel from the Sky boxes rear scart socket, because as previously mentioned by Dave L you do not require a card in the Sky box to receive it.

Lucy Lilley: As Sutton Coldfield (or possibly Lark Stoke) would appear as being the stations used for Freeview reception in your area and which neither of is indicated as suffering from any problems, then "if" the no signal problem referred to still applies the reason for is liable to be down to a problem associated with your installation.

Should your row of houses be connected into a communal aerial system? (very difficult to see) then its best that you check with a neighbour to find out if they are also being affected before touching anything, if though they are not, then you should check any jumper leads used between your TV / box and the wall socket as well as making sure that any booster used (if?) in line is still powered up, although even if it appears to be it could still be defective and so temporarily bypass it by connecting the aerial straight into the TV / box.

Further advice dependant on reply.
