Dave: I would be inclined to make enquiries with your neighbours to find out what kind of reception they get, and of what programmes! as your area can be iffy for reception and the problem might not just be confined to your own set up.

If though they give glowing reports with their "Freeview" reception, then try and have a look at the aerial fitted on their property to make sure its facing the same direction as yours, you being forecast as being able to receive from both Redruth (@ 15 mls) and Caradon Hill (@ 29mls) the latter indicating the best albeit further away.

Briantist:(Re:- 7th/08.50pm) Very colourful! albeit that the shade differences between a couple of colours are a tad on the subtle side but perfectly OK for the purpose intended, and is something which should be of great assistance on any occasion where continuity doubts exist when back checking.

Mike Dimmick: Thanks for that info, I knew it was sometime 2012 but the exact date, and yes! on reading Bill's posting again it would appear that he is actually stating that his area is not allocated these COM channels, this really confirming what you mentioned regarding his aerial possibly pointing to Kirkby Stephen.

Briantist: Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

When I was told what had happened I assumed that the Sky base operator had accidentally deactivated everything on his card by mistake rather than just his access to subscription channels, as although they are on the ball most of the time its not exactly unknown for the occasional mistake to be made now and again.

I used to have contacts who worked at the control base, albeit that they could be easily be mistaken for members of the secret service!

Bob Draper: Assuming that you are meaning the Samsung DT7800 Freeview PVR there shouldn't be any problem with what you wish to achieve if you are in an area with reasonable signal strength.

If your signal strength is OK then you can simply "daisy chain" the aerial through the PVR then into the TV, but if any further Freeview devices are intended being used or that your signal isn't that good, (ref: Blue-Ray comment) then simply use a two-way (or more) powered splitter to feed each device, this guaranteeing that each gets the same level of signal, this being a commonly done and highly effective method to use, and which eliminates any potential problems of one thing affecting another.

DeeGee: I would suggest that you try carrying out an "initial set up" or "factory reset" procedure to scrub everything stored in the EPG memory, as equipment that loses the EPG when switched off is usually because there are more channels stored than the memory can cope with.

Jim: I can tell you through experience that if that first Labgear 27879 aerial you mentioned didn't give the results you expected then nothing is likely to if tried on the same day, this said because conditions can change over 24 hours and so trying another aerial on a different day isn't really an accurate test.

As you obviously realise you are not predicted as being able to receive Waltham, and in cases like that its aerial position that can in many cases bring results, this "not" by any means always meaning as high as possible but by its horizontal positioning, (each end of the loft or a facia) and once the best position is found in this plane "then" try raising and lowering it, this being where your original amplified log really scores by its sheer manoeuvrability.

DeeGee: Thanks for your speedy reply, and yes! factory resetting is sometimes the only way to eliminate to unwanted.

I don't know whether or not you have this switched on, but when "auto-update" has been selected on any device that's already running near its memory saturation point, anything received during an auto-update can sometimes take it over the top and cancel everything.

lm: If you had mentioned your location (post code) in Glasgow it would have been of assistance, as parts of Glasgow can use Darvel as well as Blackhill, or alternatively one of the small relays that's dotted around, like Cathcart or Glasgow Central. (Kelvindale)

Going by what you have said suggests that a fault has developed in your aerial system, I cant determine though whether or not you are meaning that its a communal aerial system you are on, and if it is then a check should be made to ensure the power to the distribution amp hasn't been knocked off in error.

Simon: Yes, David's perfectly correct insomuch that these COM multiplexes are on very low power, and which I was aware of, but my only reason for suggesting you try and borrow another box was because of you reporting that you received a good signal from Mux Ch55 whereas Mux Ch59 was very erratic.

As these two multiplexes are allegedly on the same power, then the "only" way of determining the exact cause of the problem and possibly eliminating your updated Sharp TU-160H, was by trying another box that wasn't known to suffer from possible offset problems, as if Ch59 was also received poor on another box then that's inclined to indicate a problem out with your control "if" you have already tried various aerial positions within the loft.

No need to acknowledge as I was just clarifying a point.
