ron: Not sure exactly what you are meaning, as HD is already receivable via Sky dishes irrespective of whether or not they are used with a Sky or Freesat box, although Sky offers more of a selection of HD channels, at a price though!

stuart: You may well want to use your old Sky box as a form of Freesat device, but you will not be able to use a Freesat EPG as that is dedicated to Freesat branded boxes, your old Sky box operating as though it was still on Sky, you should though reset the box by removing the mains plug for about 15 seconds or so, then reconnect and let it go through the usual "searching for listings" procedure, there isn't anything else you can really do.

Your old Sky box should work without a card, as the card is only required to enable you to view the correct news services for your area, plus some channels such as 5*, the card is also required for some ITV areas that are encrypted, and as such will not be viewable without a card installed.

chris: If all you have done is take the Sky box complete with card from one house to another and connect it to the wires already in your apartment, then the only thing that could be wrong is that the dish isnt aligned properly.

On your Sky remote control press Services - 4 then 6 and check what the signal and quality bars are showing, they should be about the same level as each other and taking up around 75% (or more) of the scale.

alex: I take it your loft aerial has been mounted vertically? (elements top to bottom) and that it isn't mounted where its facing into a water tank, as although loft aerials can be perfectly satisfactory in many locations they are more vulnerable to being affected by their surroundings.

Another aspect that should be kept in mind is that the transmitter output is restricted towards the South West of the transmitter, this mentioned should it apply as you haven't given an exact location.

Mr J Bond: Well the trade predictor doesn't show any reception as being possible at your location from Icomb Hill until the 14th September 2011, even then only MuxA (Ch28), with Mux2 (Ch25) & Mux.HD (Ch22) joining on 28th September, all three Mux's indicating good reception.

Oxford indicates no reception being presently possible until the 14th September, and even then only poor reception on Mux1 (Ch53) with this rather than improving actually getting worse towards 2013.

I would consider that you are in a Freesat situation for reliability of signal, as its just pot luck you have been receiving anything at all.

david: Carry out another complete factory reset, (not just rescan) once done when the post code request comes on, if by any chance it doesn't accept yours again then just enter another one from near to where you are located, pick it from a newspaper add or yellow pages etc.

Its the reason for you carrying out a retune in the first place that's the issue, as Satellite reception doesn't really suffer from picture break up's except if the dish is facing into trees or similar, as if not the dish could have moved slightly out of alignment, this causing problems on some programmes and not others.

shaun: As you have tried the aerial straight into one of your TV's and still no signal, then this is strongly suggestive of a break in the aerial lead connection.

If you can access the actual aerial you should double check the lead where it joins into it, but before doing that you should check to see if any signal is there at all, this done by carrying out a manual tune on Ch49 (BBC1) on your set, normally you could by-pass this tuning test, but you will not now have any channels stored on the TV as they will have been deleted when you carried out the previous scan.

PS: That is unless you use one of the other sets that you haven't tried a re-scan on!

Gary Miller: When you say that your neighbours are not having any problems is this on a "like for like" basis? in other words them receiving with no problems exactly what you cannot? if they are, then does their aerial point in the same direction as yours, and if not what direction?

I will say that trade predictor does show that you should be able to receive signals from Blackhill, Roseneath and Milburn Muir, however although the trade predictor can in many instances be a reasonably accurate reference source, in my experience it is also prone to showing some fanciful indications of what's possible, (or not as the case may be!) and as most signals reaching the Drymen(?) area from further a field generally has to pass over forestry ground of one sort or another, this can affect what is actually received in real life.

That aside though, the crux of the matter rests with what you find out regarding what your neighbours receive and where their aerial points.

Alan: Yes, if you also have a dish to supply the signal to it, as Freeview uses a normal aerial whereas Freesat (as the name suggests) is Satellite based.

And as far as the TV is concerned both boxes would be coupled into the TV's using scart leads, or if the TV only had only one scart socket the two boxes being coupled into it via a two position scart switch box, Argos and such likes selling them.
