Sarah, try tuning the DAB radio repeatedly at different locations in the house. You just might find it works in some places, but not in others. Check with neighbours to ascertain if others experience patchiness in DAB reception. Extending the wire aerial and waving it about until you get a stronger signal might help. Up here in the northern Devon wastelands(!), DAB reception is very patchy, but I would assume Crediton should be well covered. If all else fails, you may have to install a DAB roof aerial, akin to a television aerial, with a coaxial cable to the wire of the DAB radio. Somebody with basic knowledge would be able to do this. In this case you might, however, decide to stay with FM until DAB coverage improves.

Tony, you will need to consult local expertise to ascertain if any Italian is broadcast from satellites covering Australia. There might be a limited service like CNN, BBC-World, Deutsche Welle, France24, tve internacional etc. The Hotbird satellite at 13° East, which carries most Italian programming, can only be received in Europe. If you have fast broadband access, that might be a viable alternative.

I have found that moving the receiver or the aerial does not always re-detect previously stored multiplexes, but that re-scanning can. Whether this works may depend on the design of the receiver, so is always worth a try.

Everything receivable in Germany, including HD, should be receivable in the UK. There just might be an issue with subscription channels if there were legal restrictions - unless registering from an address in Germany. Check lyngsat.com and kingofsat.net for full details.

Experimental broadcasts continue to demonstrate the resiliance and potential of DRM and DRM+, but general adoption would appear as distant as it is desirable. A dedicated DRM receiver or computer is required. Few stand-alone receivers are currently available. With Ofcom's preoccupation with DTT and DAB implementation, and re-juggling of the "digital dividend" now under scrutiny to move 700MHz DTT down to 600MHz so as to expand G3 and G4 downwards to above 700Mhz, any link to current online Ofcom DRM documentation would be most intriguing! DRM may have a related trump card : the insatiable demand for G4 spectrum
might eventually lead to DRM radio re-filling the 150kHz-30MHz void so as to allow maximum expoitation of vhf and uhf by
mobile G4 services. Progress is exciting, in'it?

Isabella Andreana: See other postings on this site for information regarding Italian from RAI and other broadcasters on Hotbird at orbital position 13°East. Especially note reference to tivu and registration. You will also find much on related Italian websites.

Not yet on Caradon or Huntshaw Cross - unless using parameters my box doesn't recognise. I'll keep monitoring!

The Humax detects the 4seven logo from Huntshaw and Caradon - it was just the old box that doesn't recognise it. Presumably it will when programming is broadcast.

The box is an old SilverCrest SL35T. It shows
whichever programme is broadcasting on BBC3 and BBC4, CBeebies and CBBC. No red button etc.
Despite its age, I like it as it allows each
multiplex from my seven (sic!) transmitters to be saved in a separate group. The Humax is a 9150T and behaves as it should. Let's hope we get a useful selection on 4seven!

Franco: See earlier postings on this site. RAI and some other Italian channels are free-to-view with any digital satellite receiver from Hotbird on 13°E. However, to watch some programmes, a tivu receiver, registered with a codice fiscal (eg family in Italy) is needed. TVE internacional and 24H are also available free, as are many other channels. Main UK channels do not broadcast from 13°E, so a steerable dish or a second dish to receive these from 28°East would be required.
