Below are all of Michael Rogers's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page."Traditional" and "quality" have almost become alien terms...
I tried NowTV off-the-shelf from 'esco. Disappointingly, it offered almost nothing worth watching.
The future may well be RT, AlJ, Cubavision, Telesur, PressTV etc - and the ever-glorious shopping channels.
Whopee!

There has been an unusual frequency of drop-outs and weaker signal quality froom Huntshaw Cross recently. This could be due to engineering works and/or co-channel inteference from other transmitters during periods of high atmospheric pressure.

Very nice for the privileged paying the same to BT as are plebs debited for an obscenely inferior and unreliable download speed which obviates streaming, eye-playing and any such licence-fee exemption ruse.

Gareth McCann: Some Fransat channels on 5W are viewable with a generic satbox. Likewise via TNT on 19E. The full array, including HD, is available FTA via a dedicated Fransat or TNT box, available in France (and by subterfuge). Please note that, for obscure protectionist reasons, the European Union does not allow free access to channels freely available in other EU member states. Notwithstandingly disconcerting, an outrageous challenge to the transborder unavailability of SKY channels is a-lurking. Quo vadis profit maximising?

I have been receiving Huntshaw Cross as normally.
There might have been occasional brief outages
or reduced power, but none which affected my
reception.

Could this possibly mean that transmitter power will be *substantially* increased in the near future ?
No DAB signal from HX gets through here yet !

Tina, only the validity of the codice fiscale can be checked, not the actual
geographical location, so there should not be any problems.
Giovanni, you need a tivu box with validated card (see Tina above) to get all
the channels and programmes. Any satellite box capable of receiving free-to-view
channels, including RAI, Canale5, Italia1 and Rete4 will work. However, under the veil of
geographical copyright, some programmes will only be visible with a validated tivu box.
There are other EU issues in the UK, but restrictions on satellite viewing are
a flagrant denial of "free movement of goods AND SERVICES". This issue
is currently under lethargic scrutiny in Brussels, however, so let us hope !

I preferred the format of the former front-page. It was quicker to navigate, not least as it contained more at-a-glance detail of content. This is not a competition, however I would consider my technical background to be comparable to that of many frequent ukfreetv posters. Since many transmitter engineering items turn out to refer to brief interruptions or erp reductions, it might be feasible to subordinate these notifications under an appropriate sub-heading in a minor maintenance sub-section, ideally with a brief indication of the reason for the engineering work for those with an interest in technical aspects. Reception issues and major engineering work would retain the main priority, of course.
Not a few enquiries refer to issues previously dealt with. Indexing under the old format facilitated easier reference to responses. Perhaps this could be reviewed, Brian.
I have an unreliable and slow "broadband" connection, so loading pages can take time. The left panel overlaps the main body. I have to reduce the print size each time to read the leftmost text. I assume that to be a problem specific to my set-up, although it only happens on this site.
Hope this helps !

News is a mainstay of public service broadcasting. Anyone inside the BBC suggesting that News24 could be removed from DTT does not merit employment by the BBC. It could be reforged, but not removed. It could become more focused on news and information - eg with less frequent headline repitition and clear separation of factual content from informed commentary, and with more documentary-style content and background information. The number of presenters could be reduced, with the best communicators with the best diction retained. (Many excel at imbalance, mumbling and dubious English.) The BBC definitely requires radical redesigning, but not so as to mirror commercial criteria. Much could be done to greatly improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness - but the BBCs raison detre is core.

As the new levy would include BBC online services, it should be a function of the average download speed. Many of us cannot get enough mbps for streaming etc. (Ideally it should also be reduced in conformity with the ever worsening average quality of service offered by the BBC - but they would not countenance that ! )
