Below are all of Ted Hopper's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Hi, Can someone please give some advice to an oldie.I am in Winchester and receive my signal from Rowridge via a rooftop horizontally polarised aerial.I am quite happy with the reception that I get.I've been reading some of the transmission figures on this site for Rowridge and it would seem that the strongest signals are vertically polarised so my queries are as follows-Would it pay me to change my aerial to vertical?,If I did this would there be a noticeable or significant change in reception?,and finally why do I not see more vertical aerials around in my area.Is it the cost of doing so or that the difference in reception is imperceptible?

jb38:Thanks for the info.At the risk of sounding like something from the dark ages my viewing is standard definition on a 32 inch sony d3000 which gives me a very good picture. I have recently purchased a new model which has an HD tuner and a 40 inch screen but have not set it up yet so it will be interesting to see if the channels that you mentioned are there ie 81 and112.As regards channel 8 thats solent I can get this at the moment very well.Once again thanks for the clarification, its given me food for thought.

Hi,Can anyone please shed some light on an occurrence last night 29th December.I was watching an hour long programme on channel 66 CBS reality Freeview from 10 pm to 11pm.At about ten minutes from the end reception stopped and a message appeared about channel not tuned then some distorted sound and programme returned for approx. 30 seconds only to disappear again. On delving into the tv settings got no signal against this particular channel and it did not return.Other channels unaffected.I receive my freeview signal from Rowridge via a rooftop aerial to a sony bravia tv.I have a mobile phone mast and a railway line near where I live plus of course the recent freezing fog weather conditions. This morning I have done a check on channel 66 and reception is good and in tv settings signal is high.I would appreciate any input into this matter as I am mystified and of course frustrated at missing the denoument of the programme.

MikeB: Thanks for your response to my query on 30th December re channel 66 reception.Whatever caused this seems to be a one off as I've been monitoring ever since hence my late reply. All seems to be well, signal strengths high in varying weather conditions. I take your point about cbs 66 being on less power on the mux but but I am a regular user of others such as ch5+1which are on the same mux without problem.

Winchester
Help, please. In Winchester,Roof aerial points to Rowridge, horizontal polarity,Sony Bravia tv.I can get all muxes except ArqA. All at high signal but missing one.Retuning by auto or manual methods give same result ie no trace of com5(ArqA.) Tried single channel interference from vcr as aerial loops through. no difference. Is attenuation worth trying?. Before I risk life and limb on the roof trying out vertical polarity or has anyone any suggestions. Problem is driving me bonkers.
