Thank you for so much info to study.
I still don't know, though, for example, what makes one lithium 1.5v battery rechargeable and another 1.5v lithium battery not.
I should have said my log is 16 whole elements, [I am speaking as of a yagi.] That is 32 of your little ones.

Chris SE,
I have been in touch with Blake. I believed logs were meant to be good at rejecting signals from the rear. They say not and that their DMX range are better. Since their largest dmx is pretty much the same as what I have made myself, I doubt I would see any improvement.

Chris SE, thanks.
I was communicating online, and he sent diagrams. It started with your advised log but ended up with the highest gain which from the 'x' type.
I have made extensive tests with my homebrew, just for my own interest, testing at each tiny change. I have altered spacings, length of elements, width and height of reflector and it is one of the few that gets 37. lengthening of elements brings better signal on 29, but if I do too much it loses on 47. I am particularly proud of the dipole which I call batwing, substantially larger than most.
Any more thoughts on 1.5v lithium batteries?

Does anyone know about freesat, please?
I used to get all channels. Now Sky news and others break up or disappear with a message about weak / no signal.
Why does this affect only some channels?

js,
thanks. You mean it is KNOWN to be inferior? They don't try to improve it?
A bigger dish would not help?
This other version of it, is that from Sky?
I would not know how to tune my recording box to get that.

Yes, I know I am an ungrateful sod. I never got round to it. I will do though. At present it is not causing problems, but if the weather heats up it will be a pain and I will do something.
I have been using freesat a bit, but now have a similar problem with that one on some channels.

thanks.
how do I find the symbol rate etc?
I am still not quite following this. You are telling me there is more than one transponder from that satellite transmitting sky news Why? And I thought the only ones were freesat and sky.
I recall years ago I had several dishes, set on different foreign satellites which I connected to my sky box in turn. I could tune it for example to RAI from Italy. But after a very short time it forgot I had tuned it to RAI and I had to start again.

Steve,
so I am being advised to try to find an Irish version with a better signal?
Can I get some Irish channels with my box?

thanks. I am speaking of aa batteries, 1.5 volts, alternative to alkaline, and 3volt , about half inch + wide and inch long, found in some fire alarms. Both these voltages seem unusual for lithium which is normally 3.7v and both say not to recharge. I don't understand why.
Re log. the 52 element design is the same length as mine with, I believe 13 WHOLE elements. The picture though is not clear. The elements seem to be in pairs, closely spaced, so that you get two close then the next one is further, then back to close etc. The overall aerial to me seems to contravene sensible design, ie the elements are far too many and far too close. I need to find a good picture of it.
