Emley Moor transmitter. Aerial in loft.
Excellent reception on all channels except for the BBC. Reasonable signal strength, but picture break up and signal loss. Strangely, some of the OK channels showing quite poor signal strength.

Hello Dave,
Living near Emley in not so sunny Huddersfield, I'm fairly certain the aerial is aimed in the right direction, so not sure about picking up other transmitters.
Slight movement of the aerial changes things somewhat, so that BBC becomes reliable, but then at the expense of several other channels.
What can be the effect of "Too higher signal level". Don't have a tuner box, but a Freeview equipped TV.

Hello again and Happy New Year.
Signal strength on our TV is indicated by a sliding bar, so no actual figures. I'm judging "strength" by the length of the sliding bar.
The most recent aerial directional adjustments now provides BBC channels, but at a loss of ITV3 and some others. The ITV3 showing on the sliding bar is over 50%, whilst other available channels indicate much lower bar readings.
Thanks for the help advice so far.

Variable attenuator ordered as a result of advice.
In the meantime will try the reverse direction suggestion, if only because I'm curious.

Now have an attenuator as suggested. Tried to ensure the aerial is aimed at Emley.
Most channels now available, although some simply not registering.
Variable strengths indicated for channels as well as variable results, i.e. occasional pixelation on strong channels, none on some weaker ones, and poor reception on ITV4 and Film 4 (Com 6 ?)
Advice appreciated still, although imminent minor surgery indicates I may not be able to crawl around in the loft for a week, or so to possibly deal with the aerial. On the other hand, could adjust the attenuator as that is more convenient.

Here's an interesting side issue.
Alongside the loft aerial location we have a dormer bedroom containing a portable TV with cheap Freeview box. Just tuned it in as I didn't do so last September. All channels perfect.
The curiosity is that the connected aerial is a cheap ribbon type originally used back in the early 80s for stereo radio reception. No aiming, simply secured to the wall with three nails and plugged in. Interesting ?
