Rob: The DSO is only at the first stage, no changes have been made to anything other than Multiplex 1/BBCA and BBC TWO analogue.

Scott: From what I have been told, all of the "preview" Freeview HD services have been "piggybacked" onto the analogue Channel 5 transmitter at the various sites, so they should have the same radiation patterns as the Channel 5 services.

These old analogue Channel 5 transmitters are all (I think) omnidirectional and not the "panel" type transmitters used for digital services which allow considerable flexibility for radiation patterns.

Nedbod: There's not much that can be done about lightening. As far as I know you are still supposed to disconnect your aerial during a storm!

pam: I would think you would be best advised to plug your old Freeview box back in and use it with your new TV, at least until switchover.

Claire Nicholls: Your options are ... limited.

You may be able to cable (from Virgin Media) or Freesat - but not having a SCART input to your set limits your options.

For the cost of buying a "modulator" you can almost get a new LCD television set.

Daniel Esmond: Sorry, but your TV is not a Freeview HD - DVB-T2 one. You will need to use a Freeview HD box with the set to watch the channels.

Keith Thacker: The HDMI connection uses "HDCP" to prevent devices from recording the HD content when the source device says so.

Not all display devices support HDCP - almost all do but some very old HD equipment doesn't.

The best thing to do is to plug the TV into something else that provides an HDMI output (a PC, a DVD player etc) and confirm that the HDMI input is OK.

It *could* be a fault with the Humax - can you plug it into another HD display using an HDMI cable to confirm?

John McMillan: I agree, it is odd. There are a number of Sony devices listed on that link, however.
