andy: You do realise that the TV Licence only pays for BBC (and S4C Wales)?
For this reason, the BBC services are provided to all UK homes.
However, the other broadcasters only have to provide their PSB services to all UK homes. These are Channel 4 (and S4C in Wales) , the main ITV (or STV or UTV) and Channel 5.
Everything else is regarded as "commercial" and can be provided to as many, or as few homes as you like.
Freesat is provide for people who only get a limited number of channels from the terrestrial broadcast system: see https://ukfree.tv/comp…pt=3 for the details.

Stuart Owens: Thanks for that. It seems to be an "artefact" of the system that works out the location description from the location. I'll look into it tomorrow.

anthony: Thanks.
I've been waiting for Ofcom to update their **official** tables.
I don't take data from Digital UK as they claim copyright on their site.
As Ofcom | UK Digital Television Transmitter Details seems to have been updated recently, I will check the data against there again.

anthony: I've checked against the Ofcom tables and COM7 and COM8 are not yet listed by Ofcom.
I've changed the GIM mode to 16QAM.

Val King: I would suggest there are two reasons for "adverts being louder than the programmes" on Pick TV.
Firstly, the adverts are not actually louder: they are just part of what is called "The Volume Wars". By using special software (called "auto compression"), the sound is made to sound louder, even though when measured, it isn't.
The adverts are delivered to Sky (who run Pick TV) by the advertisers in this form. They are paying for the channel, so they get make this choice.
Secondly, most of the content on Pick TV is of US origin. Most programmes are mixed for "5.1 sound" and then converted to what is called "Dolby Digital": a system that sounds OK on both stereo and 5.1 systems.
The upshot of this is that listening to it with stereo speakers will sound slightly quieter for the programmes than the adverts.
If Sky's clients (the advertisers) thought they would make more money by making the adverts quieter, they would be quieter.
Personally, I'm almost shocked that you don't use Freeview+/YouView to record Pick TV and skip the adverts altogether!
