you should only loose satellite reception in extremely heavy/thick snow or biblical rain storms so 95% of the time it will work fine if correctly set up. i have sky tv,european large motorised dish, freesat and freeview and i think freesat is a excellent idea and good luck to them. my main gripe with freeview is the bandwidth is limited so all channels should be free. theres more adverts/repeats than normal tv on sat/cab and people are voting with their wallets more and more.

what about me? i have sky tv,freesat, freeview and a large motorised satellite dish which recieves over 35 different satellites... i agree that alot of sky customers are using their 3rd and 4th outputs for freesat. a freesat box is just a fta satellite reciever with 7 day epg/channel list updater. if people only knew that theres a wealth of free programming from all over the world as the astra2/eutelsat28a satellites are the tip of the iceberg.

@ray which programmes are you refering to? you should get all the fta services from 28.2/5e if you have a s*y mini-dish and its correctly aligned. if you are using a ross dish/reciever kit maybe the dish is pointing at 13east,19.2e or 23.5e which have german/italian/dutch ect ect on them. post more info and we will advise you

intelsat 12 has 3 distinct footprints being india, south africa and europe. you can recieve the european beam with a quality 80/90cm dish/dvbs2,mpeg4 HD stb with 12 channels being fta although as stated its low on the horizon so care must be taken for line of sight obstructions.. you can recieve these channels fta on the european beam.

imo freeview should mean exactly that... no sky sports/espn/bt sports or what ever. maybe 4 mpeg2-sd muxxs and 2 mpeg4-hd muxxs with decent channels and no rubbish smut, shopping ect. if you want pay tv then by all means get sky or cable. another observation is why cant bt sports just sell a cam/card for bt sports using seca/nagra and broadcast via eutelsat 28a/b so anyone could buy there own fta stb with cam slot so they could get all the fta channels from 28.2/5e and bt sports 1/2 if they wanted.. thus not having to use murdochs crippled amstrad boxs. just my personal view on things

mdt: i understand that dave my point is that the bandwidth is limited on DTT so imo it should be for free services beit sd or hd and not pay-tv in any guise
