Inez:
You are only about 5 miles from the transmitter at Waltham so the signal should be very strong. There has been discussion on this site about how extremely strong signals can saturate the receiver and stop reception. It is possible to buy devices to reduce the signal strength - called attenuators. Obviously your TV was working before but the shift down in frequency to Ch 49 may have just pushed the receiver "over the edge" so speak. Have you tried manually tuning to Channel 49? My receiver gives information about signal strength and "quality" on manual tuning. That might give a hint. In your position I would also be tempted to try with a really bad "aerial" such as just a length of wire, to see whether that might improve matters - it would give a hint as to the cause. (Waiting to be shot down in flames by he experts on this site!) Good luck.

Tony Broadgate's problem may be the same as mine - the advice is to do a full autotune but what happens is the tuner scans probably upwards in frequency and finds other transmitters and stores their version of BBC1 and 2 first . Thus at EVERY retune I finish up getting Look North instead of East Midlands Today and spending the entire evening trying to remember how to get it back. The "second" instance of BBC 1 and 2 is usually stored around Channel 800 -802.
