Will the Hastings transmitter ever get more HD channels when only a few miles away they are available to people? This is so unfair. I particularly want BBC4 programmes in HD. Now I have to go cap in hand to Rupert Murdoch in order to see these programmes which means paying for a service that is free to many other parts of the country.

Looking at the FreeSat channels there is hardly any difference from what I get through my aerial now. If it is coming off Sky Sat why is there no E4 or Film 4 or C5 or any of the other HD channels Sky supplies. All available in SD on Freeview. Surely if the SD are available on FreeSat then the HD channels should be too. Why is this? I'd love to leave Mr Murdoch behind but to lose so many HD Freeview channels makes me wonder if it is worth it.

MikeB: Good of you to defend Murdoch, as if he doesn't have enough influence over us already, but I'm not sure if you have answered my query. All HD channels available on Freeview can be viewed in HD on Freesat? Does that mean E4HD, More4HD, C5HD, etc or just the 16 that can be seen if you live in an area that has the right infrastructure to receive the 16 already on Freeview? Does this mean C4 and C5 are paying Murdoch to broadcast HD channels? If slots on Freeview are available why? And if all tvs and Freeview receivers, recorders etc are going HD only from this year, when are these channels going to start broadcasting on Freeview in HD, and when will someone pay for the infrastructure to enable everyone in every part of the country receive all channels? Even with Tv it seems we are a them and us society.

Happy 2016 - welcome to the Golden Age?

With the loss of BBC3Hd on my local Hastings transmitter I was hoping BBC4 would simply take its HD place but while I have tried to retune so far nothing new ansd certainly not BBC4HD. Will this ever change?

Now that manufacturers are not going to make any televisions that are not HD, and are already pushing 4K TV, when will broadcasters catch up and make sure we can get more HD channels in all areas of the country?

Channel 4 abandons Freesat HD in TWO DAYS
Wednesday 18 April 2018 12:21PM

Really annoyed at losing C4HD off of Freesat as I now live in France and it was one of the few HD channels my Panasonic Freesat box got good reception with. Considering there are 26 HD channels free to air in France, British tv seems lost in the past. And why is Freesat now the poor relation of Freeview? This is just not fair.
Oh and for anybody buying a Panasonic Blu Ray recorder with Freesat be warned, they no longer make them and the tuner is really weak compared to something like a Sky box. BBC4HD in particular, my favourite channel, often drops out at peak time, and is out completely some days. I questioned Panasonic about this and their reply was more or less tough shit mate!

Channel 4 abandons Freesat HD in TWO DAYS

StevensOnIn called it An overspill signal in the south of France, and also I imagine in Spain, explains why the HD signals can sometimes find it hard to get through! Frustrating. Especially when I could get all British HD channels by PAYING Sky which is not something I want to do!
Glad to say that France broadcasts 26 HD channels free to air, and quite a few British and American programmes get shown in this civilised country with a choice of watching in the original language or dubbed into French.

Freeview 2024?
Sunday 29 July 2018 3:29PM

I've still not lived anywhere with a reliable streaming service, with internet speeds varying and freezes happening often. Then there is weather that can also interrupt signals. It is no way to try and watch a programme. Also as Brian says even with the best service UHD is rare and nor reliable and with both Amazon and Netflix I've had to sit watching bad pictures while the service realises it is an HD or UHD production. All sounds suspicious to me, yet another privatisation plan in there somewhere which always costs the consumer a bundle .
