Actually the card does also provides access to Channel 5 HD. The Sky EPG also has some FTA channels not on Freesat.

It looks as though the Premiere league are going to have rethink the way they sell thier television rights. The ruling that live football itself is not copyrightable is interesting.

None of these channels are free.

None of the BBC HD channels are in HD as they only transmit 1440x1920 except when a 3D "experiment" is on. DD 5.1 was not on for the BBC Cup Final on Sunday but it was on for Sky.

@Tony Hill

You are correct the BBC has a poor record with 5.1 sound. The Carling Cup Final was broadcast in low definition and stereo on BBC. Sky transmitted it in 3D and with Dolby Surround sound.

Infact I understand Sky has spent alot of money to get the best 5.1. They have installed Soundfield microphones at many football stadiums. This has certainly paid of as it adds considerably to the atmosphere.

Also the BBC surround sound has been very poor. They tend to use the front speakers as a stereo pair for the commentry instead of panning it as you should for 5.1.

Just a thought may be your amplifier is overloaded with the stronger signal. Amplifiers should only be used to compensate for long aerial leads and not low signal strength.

Whether Sky pays or the TV companies pay is dependent on comercial value. Is it more important to the BBC that it is on Sky or is it more important for Sky to have BBC. I don't think to PSBs are forced to go on sky but they have made a commercial decision to pay. At least Sky has reponded to their complaints.

There is of course a president for this. When Sky started ITV refused to go on Sky inorder to promote One Digital. When that went bust ITV clearly felt it was importent to be on Sky.

I mainly have Sky for the sport. If all the PSB channels left Sky I would still subscribe. It does seem to me that it does make financial sense for the commercial channels to stay on Sky.

I am suprised that so many people still watch BBC 1. The considerable increase in repeats and the increase in what I call trash programs has reduced my BBC 1 viewing time to negligable.

I have now read that the reduction in the fees was in exchange for iplayer access on anytime+.
I also understand that the BBC is considering the reduction in regional areas available on satellite. I wonder if this is so they can have regional HD for BBC 1 HD using fewer transponders.
