This transmitter has no current reported problems
The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Cave Wold (East Riding of Yorkshire, England) transmitter.UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

What I cannot understand about the Cave Wold DAB TX is that coverage extends well into the North Sea, yet inland towards York, coverage is sporadic to say the least. York and North Yorkshire do not have a local DAB service, so could benefit from better coverage from Cave Wold.

Betamax_man: The 11B multiplex is for "Humberside", not for "York", the output levels are to provide service for the intended service area.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I know this but why does it cover Scarborough and the north sea, also not it's intended service area. You struggle to receive this MUX in parts of Pocklington and Wilberfoss, and these are in the intended service area.

Betamax_man: To provide "ground floor" indoors coverage on the land area, the "outdoor, mobile" coverage extends into the sea.

Thank you again for your reply Brian. If you knew the area you would know that York can 'see' Cave Wold, that Pocklington and Wilberfoss is in the County formally known as Humberside, and that Scarborough has never and will never be in Humberside. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at you, I just don't get why Ofcom have had this policy, especially when they awarded the North Yorkshire licence to a company that doesn't look like it will ever start.

Betamax_man: It doesn't matter if you can "see" the transmitter, it is NOT intended to provide service in the direction of York. Of course it could, but the DAB local multiplexes are based around the concept of serving particular counties and it necessary for the frequency reuse that the coverage does not leak from the defined regions as this would impact on the ability of other the other regions that use the allocated frequency.

Having recently moved to Bridlington I find that the DAB reception is fine from the BBC National, Digital 1 and the Humberside multiplexes. However the Yorkshire multiplex suffers as it does not a transmitter on Buckton Barn like the other three. Some of the other MXR multiplexes cover really wide areas such as their Severn Estuary and West Midlands ones. Perhaps if the MXR multiplex is to offer wide Yorkshire coverage it should add transmitter sites at Buckton Barn, Oliver's Mount and in the Dales at Skipton, Hawes and Settle.

Have any of the East Yorkshire DAB Multiplexes had work done to them recently? For nearly 5 years I've had excellent DAB reception from my car in Withernsea up until about 1-2 months ago; now I can't receive any DAB stations at all. I've even changed my car DAB aerial - no difference. What's changed - anyone got any ideas? TIA.

I live kilham in east yorkshire and we cannot get any signals this morning nor can we get most TV channels. What is going wrong with these services. This is the worst it has been and it usually is pretty poor anyway.
