Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Heolgerrig (Merthyr Tydfil, Wales) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

i can only receive a limited number of dab stations. I understand that a new merthyr transmiter will be operational this week. Is this true and if so, will I be able to receive more stations?

D jacobsen: According to Ofcom approves South Wales DAB extension : Radio Today :

"This move is part of a wider expansion of DAB digital radio coverage across Wales during the next year. New DAB digital transmitters are planned to be switched on over the next year bringing local DAB to an additional 400,000 homes and total local DAB coverage to almost 80%.

At the end of August, new digital transmitters are planned to be launched in South West Wales, adding a further 150,000 households in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire."

BBC Radio Wales advertising now available on Dab in merthyr. But no sign of it after retuning. Just the main BBc stations. I was able to receive up to 60 stations on my outside roof aerial 8 years ago from several multiplexis. I am 1000ft asl which helped. But most signals now gone since the local merthyr TX came into service. So I am now in a weaker position. Just 12 stations only. can hear some others very weak on a good day. Perhaps try a higher gain aerial. Trying to avoid Vhf fm now. uneconomical to listen via the tv.

S Hughes: Which stations have you tried? The BBC national stations generally have the best coverage, with local stations and national commercial stations having differing coverage in different areas. A full postcode from the area affected would be useful as we can then access the coverage prediction for that location. Dates for new transmitters to go on air are rarely announced in advance and no one on this website has any connection with any broadcaster or transmitter company.
