Map of all DAB transmitters

You can click on a transmitter group symbol to see all the masts in that county or area, or click on a single transmitter to see the coverage area. Due to the large number of radio transmitters, many have been grouped into counties or administrative areas for ease of viewing.

What do the map symbols mean?

DAB radio transmitter,  DAB transmitter coming,  Transmitter group.

Could someone explain what "DAB coming (out of area)" on the map means, please?

Thank you.

Can anyone confirm that Bilsdale is transmitting the N. Yorks Mux as mobile reception is poor around Malton and on the A64 Crambe to Staxton

Hi, all.

I live in Chippenham, Wiltshire and as of 9 am this morning I have had no DAB signal on either of my DAB radios. Radio via Freeview is OK. Does anyone have any idea of any works going on and how long the situation may last?

Many thanks

Radio via Freeview is actually better than DAB, it broadcasts Radio 4 Extra in stereo at a higher bit rate, as does Freesat which in turn has better recording boxes with great capacity these days. All BBC stations are in better quality on TV with generally higher bit rates and Radio 4 does not go into mono in the evenings on the tele, but it does on DAB.

5 Live is in mono on all platforms but the World Service is in stereo on BBC Radio 4 from 01:00 to 05:20am, except for Election Night / Morning.

The marker for Melvaig DAB on the map showing transmitters in Highland still says "coming soon", but it's been in service since last September. The same probably applies to some of the neighbouring ones such as Skriag as well.

DAB RADIO RECEPTION
I have been trying for 2 years for someone to inform me as to when I will be able to get coverage which includes BBC Radio Scotland.
At the moment, it seems as though coverage is being concentrated in England.
There are no transmitters between Aberdeen and Inverness, yet there is a plethora of transmitters in the north of England.
When I enter my Postcode I get the following message;
Sorry, there are no transmitters close enough to this postcode to give reasonable coverage.
My question is; When can I expect to get good reception in my area; Postcode AB55 5EQ?

HUGH EDGAR: BBC Radio Scotland is carried on local/regional multiplexes, and not the national BBC multiplex (which carries BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 etc). This is because the multiplex has to be the same all over the UK, and cannot vary for one particular area.

You can probably receive the BBC national multiplex from Knockmore, but of course this doesn't carry Radio Scotland.

Therefore, what you are waiting for is a local/regional commercial multiplex on which BBC Radio Scotland will be carried.

I have found this page which might be of interest:

Ofcom | DAB Coverage Plans

I would say that the "Inverness" multiplex is the one which is likely to serve you, when its coverage is extended. Refer to the document for it there is talk of it being broadcast from Knockmore which I imagine might mean you will be able to receive it.

Hugh Edgar: Knockmore is on the list of sites for local DAB expansion due to complete by the end of 2016. This should bring the Inverness multiplex to Keith (including BBC Radio Scotland & MFR).

The culture minister Ed Vaizey is due to make a speech about this on Friday morning (6 February) so we should find out more about the timetable then.
