Having lives most of my life in the UK I used to complain about the license fee. However since moving to North America I'd now cheerfully pay it as the amount of advertising over here is obscene.

I think it's time the BBC offered non UK viewers the opportunity to receive advert free TV by paying the license fee wherever they are in the world. And that may well bring in a good new source of income.

Alastair McIntyre: That is strange, as in Australia, their eqivalent of the BBC (ABC) doesn't show adverts, yet no licence fee is charged because ABC in Australia is funded from general taxation.

Mike Williams: The current footprints for services are listed on the Satellite footprint maps | - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice page.

Channel 5 is now on 10964MHz Horizontal DVB-S 22000-5/6 .

It's worth pointing out that Freeview is not on any satellite so any change of footprint will not affect Freeview. FreeSat on the other hand is transmitted from a satellite at roughly the same orbital position as the Sky satellites.
Worth alos pointing out that to change the footprint of a satellite transmission will require physically moving the transmitting dish or the feedhorn, both mounted on the satellite some 39000 km above the Equator. AFAIK, the transmitting dish and feedhorn are not designed to be movable, not even by remote commands.
I'm not a user of Freesat, so I'm not sure whether there has been a change of frequency or transponder used for Channel 5, as I suspect from what Briantist says, perhaps other can enlighten us.

Mike Williams: Just to add to MikeP above.

The satellites are all in the same orbital position, but some have a "UK beam" which is harder to receive outside the target area.

So, what you need is not to reposition the dish, but to get a much larger dish. Depending on where you are, you might need a 2 meter dish - or larger.

As I write there is a news presenter (don't know his name) at 9pm trying to talk about the opening of the Commonwealth Games on BBC News 24.
He is about as exciting as a snail walking down the pavement.
I really am non-critical person and hopefully he is fine with serious news but to have him as link man for a big event like the games was very short-sighted.
