I cannot get sound from my tv/set top box. When I initially set it up the sound was ok then it went off - could it be a problem with the scart cable.

jb38 you was spot on with your diagnosis. My mate came round with a meter he uses for fitting terrestrial aerials. The dish was out of alignment.
Once again thank you very much for your reply.

Sheila: This is quite possible, try wiggling it at each end whilst listening to a music programme, as this will instantly show up a bad connection to a scart socket.
If it is this, pull it out and in again a few times as that usually cleans the pins.

my postcode is DE15 0DY. I am pointing at Sutton Coldfield transmitter. Traditionally FILM 4, YESTERDAY and OTHERS has been very poor reception. I was hoping after todays switchover reception would be better but it isn't. Can I hope the signal/reception will improve any time soon?

I am totally new to understanding satellite tv...I have installed a suitable satellite dish through a recognised contractor and have connected discrete cabling ( double cables) to two rooms
I am considering contracting with Skye + for one room ( and not contract for skye multiroom as i had originally planned )but wish to have free to air in the other room....buying a suitable box.
I assume this is possible and with only paying skye for their single room connection?
any advice or comment before I move to contract with skye+
thanks

I live in Yorkshire where we have needed to retune today. My flat-screen TV has had no problems but a smaller TV with a separate digibox has exhibited the following problems. After a complete initial set-up scan, all channels appear O.K. and in the correct order until an on-screen message appears stating that 7 new channels have been added and none deleted at which point, BBCs 1 and 2 (channels 1 and 2)go off air. They can still be found working on channels 819 and 814 even though the headings can still be seen on channels 1 and 2. Where is the fault? We have line-of sight to Emley Moor transmitter and reception is good.

phil: Sutton Coldfield had its DSO1 today, but the power for the Arq B MUX (Film 4, Yesterday etc.) won't be increased until DSO2 on the 21st September.

derek gavin: satellite dish with quad LNB will give you two feeds for a Sky+ / Sky HD box and two more feeds which can go to a Freesat box (only one feed required if the Freesat box doesn't record). There is no problem doing this as you've outlined, paying Sky for a regular (non-multiroom) subscription.
