2 weeks Mazbar and I've already had someone out who charged through the nose and never fixed it Not had any time to be in for a repair guy recently as I've been busy at work but everything should be ok now anyway thanks to jb38

William: I can assure you that you are not wasting my time as I rather like dealing with odd problems such as yours, and indeed when wearing my domestic hat (as my main job involves non domestic RF) I have a secondary job as an installation trouble-shooter / repair engineer.
The only difficulty when dealing with odd problems such as yours on a forum such as this is that by necessity it always involves a series of questions and answer postings, and its this fact that lengthens the process before a solution is found, because normally I would either be visiting the person with the problem or giving advice / instructions over a phone line, mostly of course on problems where guarantees are involved, although not exclusively so!
PS: Rather ironically I passed by (on M8) near to your location two weeks ago as I was up that way on a working holiday.

Ok jb38 you were right all along The 28V or so that's coming from my main aerial point when I put it through the attenuator it doesn't cut my sky signal " but " I have just found out that it isn't actually sending the digital signal to my bedroom TV at all I am seeing about Half my freeview pictures in my room but I actually just noticed that half my channels were missing so I went into my TV's menu to find out that there is actually no aerial input and I now realise that this is why the isolated co-ax point is fitted in the bedroom because of the voltage coming down the main aerial line i finish work early tomorrow so I will come home and spend some time on this I will need to open the back of my Main wall plate and open it up I had it open earlier just for a quick look and noticed 3 co-ax cables going into it 1 into the return ( to bedroom ) and 2 cables together into an enclosed unit ( presumably for main aerial and sat 1 and 2 ) thought there would have been 4 in total 1 for each sat feed 1 to my bedroom and one for the main aerial ?

William: Yes, have a good study at where the wires actually go using the test meter (on ohms) for continuity checks and with it only being set to DC for all other measurements.
Another main thing to remember being, always have the Sky box either completely switched off or with all connections from it disconnected from the wall plate otherwise you will get false readings, because the Sky box sends DC voltage up to the LNB for polarity switching purposes, these can be roughly either 13 and 18 volts dependant on the channel the box is on.
There was another test I would have liked you to carry out "first" though just to eliminate (or not as the case may be) a slight doubt that I had in my mind, the test being to put the Sky box on its signal test screen and carry out a check on each of the two "F" connector jumper leads from the wall plate one at a time, but "only" into the boxes LNB1 input to make sure that both leads indicate roughly the same level.

Ok so when my sky box isn't switched on I get no voltage at my main aerial point.
When it's switched on I get 18V at my main aerial point.
I've tried the signal strength page and both the signal strength/quality from sat 1 and sat 2 on the wall plate are To my box are near full even when I put sat 2 into input 1 I still get good signal strength.

So I then opened the master wall plate and set the meter on the lowest ohms scale I tested first of all each cable separately ( braiding to inner core ) totally clear.
Then between my 2 braidings from the two that go into the triplexed unit nearly a dead short 0.02 ( don't know of this is normal ).
I have 3 coaxes at back of master wall plate the return coax is in a separate module ( to bedroom obviously ) and the other two coaxes go in to this labgear module one into sat2 input and the other into triplexed input ( I presume for sat 1 , TV and FM )

Lastly I don't realise why now when I loop a flying lead from TV to return ( the way it was before sky was even installed ) The main aerial menu on my bed TV now is gone where u go to tune/store channels etc but I can still get all my channels

William: Two points, when you get 18 volts on your master aerial point when you switch the box on is this with or without the aerial jumper lead connected into the box as well as the Sat 1 & 2 connections? if they all are then does the voltage vanish when you take out the master aerial to box jumper lead? if it doesn't then does it when the "F" connectors are removed from either the wall plate or the box.
By the way the readings you obtained across the two braidings is normal, its the 18 volts across the rear of the coax socket that isn't as there should not be any voltage indicated, although it would if you went across any of the two sat connections.
I take it that as far as voltage readings are concerned that they are always taken with the meter on DC? (which it should be)

I raised a question in August whether a Smart TV would work off the same Wi-fi as radiated
from a broadband router already set up for
use with a Wi-fi laptop.I can now confirm that this is so,but to activate this you have to
input the access code from the underside of your router(With the Smart TV remote control)
