It is unfortunate for both the people of Blackpool and the Ladies and Gentlemen of Lytham St Annes that radio signals propagate well over water and less well over the mountains of Leyland and the Longton hills.
But an aerial pointed at Winter Hill a bit S of E tather the MyP a bit W of S should keep you on trach so long as it is well directional.
Either way, your Freeview Tuner probably has picked up theproper Lancastrial channels and put them in the "Duplicates" section - usually 900s but can vary. Use "Channel Arrangement" to switch what yoiu want to 1 2 3 4

Thanks for your help. I'm still getting Wales even after replacing channel 62 with 50 and 61 with 49. I don't seem to have a Duplicates section on my box so I'll next try your suggestion of turning the aerial slightly.

Linda : Are you meaning that (1) on your remote control gives BBC Wales likewise (3) results in ITV1 Wales? because if you do then that could suggest that you are picking up the Moel Y Parc transmitter even although the possibility of picking it is only indicated as being "poor" in your locality.
Should the aforementioned apply then carry out a signal strength check whilst on (1) and note the channel number seen associated with the strength / quality, if its Ch45 then that's Moel Y Parc, and with (2) likely to be Ch39.
But though I would suggest that you carry out a "factory reset" on your TV / box, this also called "default setting" or "first time installation" before you carry out any further retuning procedures.
I would also turn off "automatic updates" should you see that mentioned in the set up menu, because if you have carried out the correct procedure to "manually" tune in mux Ch50 and Ch59 then they should not have changed.
It would also be of assistance if you provided the model number of your TV or box.

smug michael: which part of my original message was ambiguous? I said that I have repeatedly reset/rescanned etc all of the equipment I hava access to. Indeed, I then had all of the previously affected channels working again - for several minutes to several hours. Then they disappeared again. This has happened repeatedly since the change over. Nor am I alone in this. Several people in my immediate area are similarly affected. Perhaps we should resign ourselves to constant rescans from now until the engineers finally admit that something is WRONG?

JH If your problem affects others locally you may havew a local issue. Have any of you asked a local aerial installer?
If no progress there, you need these people.

JB38 - You may not know the geography. Linda lives yards from the sea, at sea level, on the northern curve of the Ribble Estuary. She has direct line of sight over the sea to Meol y Parc, but terrain and buildings towards Winter Hill.
Linda where does your aerial point? Is it same as others?
One thought. Does your tuner know your location/TV Region? Is there an option to choose? Have you RT.M ?

Steve P: Well I have to admit that I hadn't actually carried out a Google earth check as I was more concerned with finding out what station Linda was picking up that resulted on her having BBC Wales, although I do have distant knowledge of Lytham St Annes by having spent a few holiday breaks in the Fleetwood area and having toured the coastline down to Southport from there.
But though considering what you mentioned about the Moel Y Parc transmitter being virtually line of sight with Lytham its rather odd why DUK's trade view reception predictor gives such poor indications for its reception at Lytham, an indication which is obviously incorrect (and indeed as many are) otherwise Linda's TV / box would not have been picking it up in preference to Winter Hill even although its on a lower mux channel, as going by what's seen indicated for Moel Y Parc suggests that the level received would have been under the threshold level for reception in the Lytham area, albeit obviously not!
