Do I need a filter to protect my Freeview from Everything Everywhere 4G masts?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV Back in June 2011, we reported that Ofcom moves to protect Freeview interference from 4G mobile devices.
This week has seen the launch of the first 4G (fourth generation, also know as Long Term Evolution, LTE) mobile telephone network from Everything Everywhere - which formed from the merger of T-Mobile and Orange.
The good news is that the EE network is not using the '"800MHz band" frequencies, but the 1800MHz it previously used for mobile phones.
This means that the service, which is due to work in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Southampton by the end of 2012 and reach 70% population coverage in 2013, with 98% covered by 2014, will not cause loss of Freeview.
However, it is possible that EE will win part of the 800MHz band during the Ofcom 4G auction, and EE services using 800MHz will cause the predicted problems.

I have re-tuned by Wintv Digital TV Card/Dongle,several times the channel numbers mean very little...But the card will not identify them.....
When I try any of the BBC channels, BBC 1, BBC 2, BBC Three, BBC Four, BBC News and BBC Parliament...
I get a No Signal message....

Vectra: Does WinTV not allow you to tune by selecting transmitter? In which case it will have the channels/frequencies used for each. In the case of Waltham BBC services have now changed so that tuning process will not work until it has been updated.
For that reason tune to 698MHz (C49) to add BBC services.

Vectra: An alternative approach (it's a long while since I used WinTV), can you select BBC One and change the frequency to 698MHz (UHF channel 49)? And likewise for BBC Two, BBC Three etc? Does this work?

Vectra: Are you sure that you are not misinterpreting whats being indicated? insomuch that the tuners memory is "preprogrammed" with channel numbers from 21 - 69 and with the frequencies that correspond to these preprogrammed channel numbers, 794.000Mhz only indicating that it corresponds to Ch61 and not that any signal is being received on it.
If the WinTV tuner has manual tuning enter and scan BBC1's Ch49 (698Mhz) and see what results you get.

Vectra: Just as an after thought, could you indicate the model number of the tuner you are using? the reason for this request being that there are numerous models in this range and so part of that already said may not be fully applicable to the model you are using, albeit that nothing is being transmitted on 794.000 Mhz.

The strange thing is the problem is only with BBC channels and only started after all our Freeview TV's had to be re-tuned following 'work' on the Waltham transmitter.....

Vectra: The work on the transmitter was to move the BBC services from C61 to C49. This was done to get out of the way of 4G mobile phone services due to be launched later in the year.
Some of these PC adapters and software do not get the tuning information by scanning the airwaves, or from another service they have already picked up, as TVs, set-top boxes and PVRs do. They get them from a central database. It sounds like that database is incorrect, and needs to be updated, or that you need to refresh your local copy of that information.
Check the device's manual, or the manufacturer's support website, to see how to update that data, or how to edit it if the central database cannot be updated.
