Can I use my digital freeview box abroad and receive English channals?
No. You cannot receive signals from UK Freeview transmitters abroad. You box will be able to receive local "DVB-T" transmittions, if there are any.
You can use satellite equipment pointing at the Astra 2D satellite from some European countries however to get around 100 UK free-to-air channels.

P&P: BBC, ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 are using tight beams focussed on the UK and no exact reception prediction for spillover to Bavaria is given. If you know anyone in Bavaria with a 1.5 to 2 metre movable dish, ask them nicely to see if they can get any BBC1, ITV1, Ch4 from the Astra 2 satellites at 28.2 deg. East and that will be the size of dish you will need if they are successful. There are many channels(Sky News, Music, Shopping, Religious) on the satellites at 28.2 deg.East that cover Bavaria with similar power levels to the UK that will be receivable with a 75cm dish but the main public service channels are not among them.

I used to live in UK but now lives in Nigeria. I will like to watch my favourite channels from sky in Nigeria. What satellite decoder do I need plus other gadgets to enjoy my return to Nigeria ? Even if it is the free view.

Sky transmissions are not available in Nigeria - it's far too far ourtside the 'footprint' of the signals from the satellites. No dish of any size will receive the signals so there is no point in thinking about what box to use (it would have to be a Sky supplied box anyway and they do not supply outside of the UK).
Likewise the FreeSat signals and ceratinly not the terrestrial Freeview transmissions.
You will have to enjoy the Nigerian broadcasts.

Please give the *full* URL as there is a serious risk with these 'shortened' form in that it is impossible to know in advance where you will be redirected to.
We have stated elsewhere on this site that the risks involved for little or no benefit are too great.

Hi.
Can I get the Freeview channels in the French Pyrenees? I have a Free view box in the UK but I don't think that will work. I don't really want to sign up for a contract and pay for a subscription so what is the most cost effective way to get the basic Freeview channels? The property will be rented out to tourists so I'd need basic French TV too. I don't need extra channels except maybe Sky/BT Sports for the Premier League football.
Thanks

You will not get any Freeview terrestrial broadcasts in the Pyrenees, that part of France and Spain is far too far away fropm the UK transmitters! There are possibilities to explore though. You may be able to get Freesat using a dish aimed at the 28.2/28.5 East orbital position, look at What is Freesat? - over 200 digital TV and Radio channels, subscription-free for more information about what channels are available and how to receive them - they are free too!
There may also be some services available via internet *if* your location has a fast enough internet service - it really needs to be better than 4 Mbps and not be too variable. However, not all channels are available via on-line services. Ask around locally to your Pyrenees location to see what others can receive, if anything.
Remember that mountainous areas like the Pyrenees can have reception difficulties due to the high peaks if they are between the dish location and the satellite position. Remember also that to 'see' the satellite the dish will need top look directly at them and so needs to be aimed much further east that thier orbital position suggests (that is the actual longitude above which the satellites reside, it's above the Equator somewhere over East Africa!)

Looking at the Astra satellite footprints that indicate the areas covered by their signals shows that it rather depends on where in Sweden you are thinking. Some parts of southern Sweden can get some signals from the Astra 3F, 3G and 4A satellites but you may well need a larger than normal (for the UK) dish to get reliable results. You can check the coverage at
Satellite Footprints - SES.com
and selecting the pattern for each satellite.
You will not be able to get any reliable Freeview signals as Sweden is far to far away from the UK based terrestrial transmitters. You may, however, be able to view some services via the internet, depending on speed of connection. But note that some services are restricted to which countries they can be viewed in because of copyright agreements and limitations.
There is an article about digital television in Sweden on Wikipedia (if you trust the accuracy of the source?) at http://en.wikipedia.org/w…den.
