What connections are used from set top box to TV (such as SCART) ?
You can use the following ways to connect a set-top box to a TV:
1. SCART on STB to SCART on TV. This provides the best possible connection, with stereo sound and "RGB" highest quality connection;
2. SCART on STB to composite on TV. Older TVs without SCART connections usually have "composite" inputs, usually three "phono" sockets (often red, white and yellow). This offers stereo sound and good picture quality. You will need a special cable from a high-street retailer.
3. UHF ("aerial lead") box to TV. This requires that the STB you choose (all Sky, MOST Freeview) has a UHF output. You will need to "tune" the TV into the box, and you will get OK pictures and only mono sound.
If you are stuck with mono or poor quality sound on the TV, you can still use the SCART output (and the same cable as 2) to a separate amplifier to listen in stereo.
J.F.Taylor: Use two SCART cables.
Connect the recorder device to the Sky box's SCART marked "VCR" or "SCART2".
Then connect the Sky box's SCART marked "TV" or "SCART1" to the TV.
To view the recorder device, put the Sky box into "standby" mode.

Hi folks. Can anyone help?
I'm getting a 'no signal' message on my tv from sky. BUT the sky signal is fine - I've tried a different tv and there's no problem, so the fault must be with the tv.
I've no idea why this has happened as the signal has been fine to this tv for 2-3 years, then all of a sudden this message appeared.
It's a samsung tv if that helps. Anyone any ideas?
Thanks
Ben

Alan: Are there any phono sockets on rear of the Sony TV? If so, which ones?
I'm not familiar with the Sky+ box. Does it have two Scarts and if so could you daisy-chain with the DVD player on the input (and TV on the output)?

Alan: If I could just add, that as Dave Lindsay has mentioned if your Sky+ box has two scart sockets then connect your DVD player into the second scart (usually marked VCR) and when "play" is pressed on your DVD player the DVD should over-ride the Sky+ box, if by any chance it doesn't then put the DVD back in standby likewise the Sky+ box, then press "play" again on the DVD.
If though your DVD player has an HDMI connection then just use an HDMI connector lead between both, using No1 HDMI input on your TV which usually has auto detect sensor to switch over to that input should it detect a signal on it.
One main problem though, "if" your Sky+ box is an HD type and of the later variety, then it might only have one scart socket, and which unfortunately I believe is an output. (only)

Saunders - Internet connection via your TV - You can either use a home plug set piggy backing on your home power supply with a connection from the wall plug nearest your tV and one to the nearest outlet to the router (Instructions come with the plug set) or this can be done wirelessly where a dongle is supplied as an optional extra by your TV manufacturer or a cheaper option than this with a Netgear or similar Universal WiFi internet adapter from eg:- Amazon. The Panasonic has "SMART" capability linking to specific applications eg:- "YouTube" etc but unlike the Sony, possibly also the Samsung a Browser application. This means you can access the applications that the Panasonic has, but nothing else.
