I have a Panasonic TV with integrated Freeview how can I record Freeview channel

I have a Panasonic TV with integrated Freeview how can I record Freeview channels on to my Panasonic video recorder? I can record BBC 1 & 2 and ITV 1 & 2 and C 4 & 5 but not the Freeview channels.

If you want to record Freeview channels you need a device with a Freeview receiver in it. Just as your VCR has its own analogue tuner in it, if you want to record a Freeview channel you need a suitable device.

You can buy PVRs (personal video recorders) or DVD recorders (or combined devices) which are suitable for recording Freeview. I highly recommend the former as no tapes are required and the programs can be chosen to record with a single button press from the electronic programme guide.

Michael Williams: Freeview is received via an aerial from ground based transmitters and is not receivable on any Sky box. You'll be able to record all the free to air and free to view satellite channels, which include most of the channels available on Freeview (Dave and Quest are the main exceptions as both are subscription channels on Sky).

I've bought freeview box but cannot get channel listings on it like I can with Sky. Therefore I am unable to record ptogrammes as I can't see the times they are aired so this is quite problematic. The freeview box is from "August" and the number on it is DVB 400. It is afreeviewHD receiver and media player. Thanks

Eluned Jones: If you cant get any channels on it from an aerial, check that its getting a proper signal (check your TV - if it is, then the aerial is working), and then check that the box isn't faulty. If you put your postcode into this site, you will see what sort of signal, etc you should be getting - I notice its often sold with indoor aerials - they are generally not very effective, and there that might be a reason for you not getting any signal, if you are using one.

Try using it at someone else's house - if your not getting a signal there either its the box and get your money back.

Having looked up that box on the net, it looks, to be honest, like rubbish. If you spent 25 on it, and you get it working, thats not too bad. But there is a reason why a decent PVR costs a lot more. Personally, I'd advise you to get one of these:

A Humax under the bonnet, smart, 2 HD tuners and a 500gb HDD. Costs more, but a much better product. Or, if you still have your Sky dish, just use a Freesat PVR, also from Humax.

Hello,
I am hoping that someone could help with the following predicament please - my 81 year old mother reports that she can no longer access recorded programs on her TV. It's a Panasonic DMR-EXTMEB, with inbuilt Freeview. The remote does not respond when she selects and tries to access any previously recorded programs. Upon trying to record any new material, she gets the message there is not enough space left and is prompted to delete items. A vicious circle, as she cannot access the list of recorded items to delete anything.

She has naturally been tried restarting and unplugging the TV at the mains, but the matter continues.

I would be sincerely grateful if anyone has any advice as to how to proceed forward. Unfortunately, she lives very far away and so I can't just pop over. Given her health, she relies heavily on her beloved TV.

Tracy M: Best thing to do is to check that the remote is working properly - new batteries etc. If thats working, and its still not responding, then its the unit. I dont recognise that model number (if you can find it, I can look at the manual) , but if its an old unit (and if its Freeview, not Freeview HD, its probably at least 3-4 years old), then it could have a fault.

If its an EX79 with a hard drive/DVD, finding the manula isn't too bad.

If the hard drive is full, and she can't even get into the library of already recorded items to delete them, then the last resort is a factory reset, which will wipe the disk. Not perfect, but at least it should work again, if she can access that function.

Needless to say, unplugging it isn't going to make a difference.
