Icomb Hill, Guiting Power and Over Norton BBC region change
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV A minor part of the switchover programme which comes to Gloucestershire in the next week.
It is difficult for the BBC to have relay stations which are fed from different regions for ITV and so the BBC has a programme to harmonise those relays.
BBC English Regions were consulted about this a while ago and have agreed to the changes but the BBC are only now making the changes as we get close to switchover.
From Tuesday, 15th February, the transmitters at Icomb Hill and Guiting Power which have previous been fed by Sutton Coldfield (BBC West Midlands) for us will start to use Oxford (BBC Oxford) as their parent.
Then on Thursday, 17th February, the transmitter at Over Norton will make the same change, so by the end of next week viewers to all three of these will be watching Oxford local news, rather than West Midlands.
Between them, the three stations serve just under 6,000 people.

Makes the situation from Ridge Hill for terrestial viewers in the Cheltenham/Gloucester area even more untenable with ITV West coming via their aerial after DSO, but from the BBC the itrrelevant Midlands Today.
Absolutely ridiculous when you consider the excellent coverage that BBC Points West gives north Gloucestershire. How much longer can this nonsense prevail?

Funny you should mention this. I'm thinking, is it just in Lancashire/Yorkshire that the 'split' BBC/ITV regions on relays will remain??
I've been on holiday to the Hawkshead/Ambleside area of the Lakes for many, many years, and it traditionally had BBC-1 NorthWest and.... (Don't watch ITV much up there!!), let's say Border anyway.
Now, I thought it was meant to follow that at switchover, rather than remain part of BBC NorthWest, the Lakes relays would switch to 'North East & Cumbria' (i.e. following Caldbeck, rather than Winter Hill).
It's obviously long past switchover there now. So what did I see went I went back a couple of months back?? BBC-1 NorthWest, and Border.
How many other regions/relays will continue to be split??

As per the Cotswold relays, you could argue it's actually quite a logical change. Oxford being much nearer than Birmingham/Coventry.
Though, once again, quite close to Cheltenham. Why wasn't Ridge Hill (West) considered as an option??

Richard: As per the article, the idea is to match the master ITV regions, as the BBC and ITV regions can't switch on different dates.

Richard: The ITV Border region splits into Border England and Border Scotland.
The BBC have the "Border Scotland" in the BBC Scotland nation, and "Border England" is part of the BBC North East region.
This is the only area like this, because of the historical cross-border ITV Border region.

andrewp: The BBC have no plans to change their regions. In fact they have a policy statement saying that no changes will be made.
The regional news programmes cover the area covered by the transmitters they provide service to, whatever the name.

Since the Border Tv studios were closed in Carlisle, no seperate programming is provided for Scotland/England even though 2 seperate Mux's are transmitted from Caldbeck. The only "local" output is 15 minutes of news from Tyne Tees in Gateshead, which covers the whole of the former Border Tv area. A freeview autoscan sees the 2 Mux's as identical (which they are) and only 1 is stored.
