Cube Interactive - local TV bidder
Proposal for 8 to 10 main digital services in Wales, including ones for Swansea and Wrexham, with a more local focus elsewhere.
Key people: Wil Stephens, current Cardiff and Newport local TV licence holder.
Cube Interactive
propose a Welsh TV network extending possibly into Bristol, with opt out programmes in English and Welsh as appropriate.
"Ideally I would like to build a wide coalition," Stephens said, having Boomerang in Cardiff, Telescope, Rondo Media and Cwmni Da as part of the bid.
Advised by Ian Hargreaves (Cardiff University), Emyr Hughes (former S4C executive and of SDN).

Welsh TV Network? No doubt the money wasting bureaucrats, with their newly won powers, in Cardiff Bay will throw vast amounts of UK taxpayer's money at this venture. Yet another waste of space!

Nigel Richards: No, there is no public subsidy for this service at all.

Since the closure of BBC Radio Clwyd, I've always wanted to have a more localised radio or TV channel like this as I don't really want to know about what's happening in the Granada region or in South & West Wales.
Having a news programme just for the town of Wrexham, I would've thought is a bit too much on the small side. Maybe if it took in the counties of Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire which made up Radio Clwyd, that would be a good size area for a local TV news programme.

Stuart O.: I have never understood the logic of "all Wales" services. There are distinct areas of the Principality, in particular the "England Overflow M4 corridor" area in the South is very different from the North, and of course there are some massive mountains between them.

I'm from Wales and aren't happy with people jumping on the All-Wales bandwagon. People from South Wales have more in common with the Bristol Gloucster area and like wise North Wales ties to Chester/Liverpool. This will be more infrastructure to allow the Welsh language to be forced upon us.

What's the deal with this Cube Interactive licence? I thought they were due to broadcast (presuming they chose to deliver TV) on channel 30 from Wenvoe? When I check the Wenvoe transmitter site, there is no record of this - only the new local frequency on channel 51 (come to think of it, I'm pretty sure both local services were once shown).
Any idea what's going on? Have Cube now been given the licence for Cardiff/Newport/Bridgend (if I remember correctly, the footprint for the channel 30 service was much smaller)?

Ben: There is ONE digital local TV service, that being for Manchester. No other local analogue service has made it onto digital TV.

Sorry for the confusion, when referring to the channel numbers I meant for digital services.
When Cube won the award for Cardiff (http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/spectrum-awards/completed-awards/542550_cardiff/notices/), they were assigned 542-550 (channel 30) to use for a local TV service (if they chose to go down the local TV route).
On the Wenvoe transmitter page, there is no mention of this? Have Cube chose to use channel 30 for another use? Will there be two local channels/multiplexes?
Thanks,
