Nedbod: I guess the BBC could have bought themselves a new encoder, but I have not specifically heard about it.

When will we be able to receive digital radio in Saddleworth?
Poor signal using my indoor aerial.
If I use an outdoor DAB aerial, will I be able to extract radio signals from Holme Moss?
If not, when will digital radio be available in Saddleworth?

Harry: Holme Moss carries the BBC services on DAB at 5kW and also the Digital One national multiplex. If you have a poor indoor DAB service, then you will probably need a small external aerial.

Thanks for your quick response, managed to get BBC and Digital one indoor after all with careful aerial positioning!
One other little problem.
I can receive the North West multiplex from the City Tower in Manchester (or maybe Winter Hill?) with a perfect signal, but i can't seem to be able to receive CE Manchester multiplex even though both multiplexes are beamed out from the same transmitters. Any suggestions?
Help appreciated

Harry: I'm pleased to hear your have the DAB services from Holme Moss.
The MEN multiplex is provided at both a very low power and restricted radiation pattern, you will not be able to receive it in Oldham.

MW/LW work perfectly well with aerials built into the smallest trannie.
FM often requires one sticking up a couple of feet.
DAB needs a rooftop.
Internet radio has to be wired into your home.
This is a very odd sort of progress.

Steve: I've got a small Asda DAB portable radio that works perfectly well, and has an internal radio. It depends on the coverage area.

Is that internal antenna?
Great. But presumably not for Harry.
Here in N Wales - though not a remote bit - FM radio is still less than perfect, and requires rods or wires to work at all.
I do not feel inspired to buy !

Review comment (first in line)
Wanted a cheap DAB radio for the bathroom. This radio needs 4 large LR14 bateries which lasted about 2 weeks as the display cannot be turned off and power is continually used. Had to buy another radio as the regular battery replacement made it too expensive to use for this purpose.

is there a good reason why the bincombe dab transmitter keeps going down?
