Craigkelly, Scotland switchover process starts today
This week sees the first stage of switchover for 451,600 homes in Edinburgh and East Central Scotland.
From 6am Wednesday 1st June 2011, you will need to retune your Freeview box or television set if you use the Craigkelly full service Freeview transmitter.
If you use the Aberfoyle, Cannongate HP, Grangemouth, Kinross, Newbattle, Penicuik and West Linton relay transmitters, from this date you will also be able to receive all the BBC Freeview services (except HD), and you will no longer be able to view BBC TWO on analogue.
You MAY find that old equipment will no longer work - see TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode
On Wednesday 15th June 2011 will see the second stage of switchover, which provides the final Freeview configuration, including Freeview HD for all transmitters in this region.

I am on the Craigkelly transmitter, freeview was working fine prior to switchover, my aeriel is in the loft. After switchover I was unable to receive STV, Channel 4, 5 etc (all on channel 29). I have purchased a new aeriel and received these channels only for a few minutes and then no signal. Will this change on the 15th June?

Trevor: Loft aerials are not recommended for Freeview reception, but I would venture your problems might stem from the use of an amplifier. If you have one, turn it off.

Briantist: yes I've looked at the transmitters by frequency. I'm probably getting 5 pre-switchover and one post-switchover mux from Craigkelly, 6 pre-switchover muxes from Black Hill, but can't really see another post-switchover transmitter in the 50s and 60s that's terribly likely, though there are several small ones quite a long way away. My postcode is EH7 4EE.
Thinking further, why am I having issues with just BBC Three and BBC News - everything else on the same mux(es) is fine...
And a final thought: it looks like I'm not getting Mux 1 on C33 from Craigkelly. Tuning my analogue set to C33 shows a faint, heavily ghosted STV picture. I have no UHF-generating device so I'm guessing it's a very faint signal from further afield. Did they turn Mux 1 off early? Was that the plan in the first place? I wish my box would tell me what it's getting from which muxes on which frequencies...
Ach it doesn't really matter. I'll retune again after Black Hill switches and see what happens :-)

John Robinson: Yes, during the first stage of switchover Multiplex 1 on C33 was turned off and replaced by Multiplex BBCA on C27 (522.0MHz). This is the normal procedure for "stage one".

I had perfect Freeview reception (loft aeriel) before stage one of switchover. Now can't receive anything on channel 29. I still get a perfect picture on all BBC, Music, Dave, etc. Is this just a temp' problem, during switchover, or will this change (i.e. strong signal return) when switchover is completed on 15th June ???

I live near Dyke Road, Brighton and cannot get ITV1, channel 4 or channel 5 (plus a few others). I have re-set my digi box several times. What can I do now?

Peter Short: Most likely as you have not performed a "first time installation" as instructed.
