Maria: The former is true if you want to watch the channels all of the time, the latter is true if you only want to watch the free-to-air broadcasts.

Addendum : some local suppliers claim to get round the codice requirement - and charge accordingly. Research very carefully before committing yourself to this route. If you have access to an address and codice in Italy, this is the best and safest longterm solution. In the meantime, time-restricted viewing with a standard (or cheap) satellite receiver and dish pointed at 13°E would be straightforward. In due time, this box could be replaced with an authorised Tivu one from Italy. See previous postings here.

Thank you very much. I will get the cheap one first and then the next time I go to Italy I can get the Italian box.

ps- sorry to bother again: does the cheap 13 E box still give you some view or is there time limits? or is it that some programs are encrypted? I don't want to waste money and if the cheap one is useless then I rather wait.
My mum could buy me the tivusat box and card and then post it?
Thanks again

Maria, if you already have a dish and satellite receiver, it should work if pointed at Hotbird at 13°East. If you dont already have a dish and satellite receiver, you could have a 60-90cm dish and free-to-view box installed now and later replace the box with a Tivu one bought in Italy with the card registered to an Italian address with the codice. With a basic receiver, such as the Technomate TM-5200D USB, you would already get a good selection of Italian TV and radio, including RAI 1,2,3, News, Canale 5 and Rete 4, from Hotbird on 13°East. However some primetime programmes would be blanked out until you get the Tivu box! If you prefer to wait, when you have your Tivu box, get a reputable installer to install the dish, LNB and cabling and connect up your Tivu box.

Thanks Michale. I am going to wait i think. My mum will buy me the box and the installer who told me about the tivu sat box can install it once I get it. Thank you all very much for your help.

Max, your dish and sat-receiver should get Italian channels on 13°E. There might be signal break-up in heavy rain. Exact positioning of the dish and good-quality
sat-cable are important.
