Hello, is it possible to use a UK sky box to pick up foreign TV if I use the add channels menu and change the position of my dish?
Would I need a bigger one and what size?
I now have cable but the dish is still on my house and I still have my sky box.
F1 is moving to sky next year and its free on german and french tv

James Powell:
You will need to point your dish at a satellite that is transmitting the French or German stations.
You will only be able to view the stations that are NOT encrypted.
See LyngSat for list of channels, frequencies, if they are encrypted and which satellite transmits them.
You must also be in the satellite footprint.

James - It it's the F1 racing that's not featured on the BBC, RTL on Astra at 19degrees East should suffice. Mute the sound and take the BBC Radio 5 audio commentary.

James Powell - Just to add you may need to purchase a an FTA (free to air receiver) I am not sure that the SKY box tuner and software will achieve a result. It's possible to pick a suitable cheap box online - auction site etc.

Thanks to KJM for his advice to my question on 5th June. I moved the tip of the aerial about six inches and now have excellent reception on the channels that I want.

Perhaps this comment is a heresy on this site, but I do find the picture quality, especially colour rendering, is much better with a good analogue signal than DVT. Progress?

Ian R Henderson: Most of the broadcasters have decided that the provision of choice (ie, about ten times more channels) is more important to viewers and consumers.
On analogue, something like 85% of viewers did not have correctly adjusted aerials, so did not have "perfect" reception, these viewers of course now get "perfect" digital reception and much prefer the service.
If you want better picture quality than analogue, use HD.
