BBC Red button video now on Freesat

The BBC "interactive" videos, which can be found on Sky and Freeview, can now be watched on Freesat.

Freesat launched in May 2008.

The service has all of the BBC services that Freeview and Sky viewers have, but with a few exceptions.

Because the satellite interactive video streams were on a Sky encrypted managed transponder, Freesat viewers only had the text interactive service.

From today, the BBC now provides the video streams for interactive sporting and entertainment events.

They can be found by tuning to a BBC television channel on Freesat and pressing the red button on the remote.

glenys: The red button video service does not run all the time, and is only listed when it does. See BBC - BBC Internet Blog: What's On BBC Red Button 14th - 22nd January .

Hi, hoping someone can help me out.

Bought a new 3D Smart TV in August (LG47LM765S) that has Freeview and Freesat built in.

I can view all the stations I would normall on Freeview and althought I'm new to freesat I seem to be able to a lot of channels on there.

I can get BBC HD no problem on freesat , but doesn't seem to get channel 980/981 for the 3d stuff.

Iv'e upgraded to the latest firmware and done a full 55 minutes worth of full re-tune of ariel and satelliete but still no channel 980?

My kids are really keen to watch the Dr. Who special this weekend in 3d. Any ideas?

I'm in BH23 postcode

Hi, Please can you help.
I've just moved and the house has a standard TV socket but no visible traditional aerial. On plugging in we get no channels. There is a sky dish & a black lead coming out of the wall with a thin pin, I think this is sky.
How can I get channels without paying a subscription?
What box/cables do I need to buy?
Thanks for your help!

Steve Norton: Sky is the channel 980 (see Brian's post before yours), with Freesat being 983. LG's have a 'secret' sat. tuner (seriously, our LG rep just wouldn't talk about it), but its generic, not Freesat - so the EPG is not like Freesat - the channel numbers might be different.

Second thing is that the BBC is not (as far as I'm aware), broadcasting in 3D any longer, so they cant watch it in 3D as broadcast (hence no 3D channel). However, your TV can of course make a 2D programme 3D, so they can watch it - but it will not look as good as a proper 3D programme - so dont worry about it. Record it if you like, and then try converting it.

Just watch it on BBC1 HD, etc.

Sheena Blake: Any of the readily available satellite receivers will receive the free-to-air channels (even a Sky box without a subscription). Connect a satellite receiver to the cable coming through the wall and link it with a HDMI or scart cable to the TV. The choice of lead will depend on what sockets are supplied on the TV and satellite receiver.

Steve Norton: a quick look at various dw websites (and den of geek) says that 216 cinemas across the uk will show it in 3D - so it's a trip to the cinema if the kids want it in true 3d.
