Digital TV transmitters in Ireland - update
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV I have been creating new maps for transmitters on UK Free TV to show information in greater detail
As part of this process I have added into the system transmitter database to cover the the Irish Saorview service.
See Saorview (and relay transmitters) map :
I am in the process of adding into the site database all the information from the service from the Technical Parameters - ComReg page, so if there are any omissions I should be dealing with these in the next few days.
New maps are now showing for transmitters in Northern Ireland - BBC Northern Ireland map.

I live in west of Ireland and want to change from Sky to something free but want to get Ireland channels as well as BBC / ITV / CH4 etc.
I have UK Sony TV with freeview built in but not SAOR view which seems only to have Irish channels.
How can I get what I need, where I am most cost effectively and with high quality?

I live in Louth. Irish TV is available on satellite but you must pay SKY for it, even if you have an Irish TV licence (i.e. you have paid for it already). If you stop paying for SKY you will lose the Irish channels. This is a disgrace. Ask your TD why you have to pay twice to get RTE by satellite. Otherwise you will have to get a Saorview compatible TV or set-top box as it is a different system from the british Freeview.

MTSS: You could always get Saorsat which provides an ultra tight spot beam FTA satellite TV servie to the Republic Of Ireland. Bear in mind however that you will need to get a KA band LNB and the satellite dish will need to be pointing in a different direction to what it would for Sky/Freesat.

MTSS all that needs te done to receive freesat channels is unplug your SKY box withdraw card and plug in Sky box again.It will take a few minutes for your box to upload free to air channels.You may have to manually add frequencies for Channel 5 in other channels menu.

I note with interest that the offical site for the Irish radiation patterns, Technical Parameters - ComReg for some reason leaves out 50 degrees and 180 degrees from the speadsheet. How annoying!

Briantist: In the map selector buttons, you have 'Soarview' rather than 'Saorview'.
For power levels, you're clearly using the figures from the spreadsheet, but ComReg have obviously just converted from dBW (as in the Geneva plan) to watts. Perhaps you could round the figures to a more meaningful value?
