Updated Oct 2009: click here to watch Channel 4 live online

You will be able to watch Channel 4 live on your broadband computer or TV from 27th June - just register at www.channel4.com/livetv to watch Channel 4s flagship commissioned shows at the same time as their TV transmission.

Andy Duncan, Chief Executive of Channel 4, said: "It is our stated aim to make Channel 4s public service programming available across all meaningful platforms and to be the first UK broadcaster to begin simulcasting our content on broadband is a significant step towards delivering on this objective. By embracing the challenges presented by new media technologies we aim to ensure Channel 4 remains as relevant in the future as it is today."

Rod Henwood, New Business Director, added: "Viewing video via the PC is fast becoming a reality and the popularity of our existing online video offering proves that a strong demand for watching programming online already exists. Launching our broadband simulcast service will enhance our offering still further and is evidence that Channel 4 is leading the way in providing new media services that viewers actually want."

The service will revert to a a loop of Channel 4 promotions when acquired programmes and films are shown, and have commercials.

why can you not just have a simple free easy to use public access for C4 live tv and movies etc the way the bbc website does? All this having to register, log in and join a site and use 'catchup' tv just to watch the stream or archive material is most unfriendly to consumers and time wasting. Too much effort in an age where people expect instant access. It's very archaic and unproductive as a method unlike the one click simple BBC i Player. I am not impressed by this system

dreevay: You are required by law to pay the TV Licence Fee if you have a television set. You may choose not to have a television set (or other receiving device) if you do not wish to pay, that is your choice.

Have had problems with watching live TV on channel four. The player just keeps saying that my broadband is not fast enough. I have 100meg broadband....even allowing for this being really a third as fast, it should still be ample.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem...and solved it?
