Mike Thomas: BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru are available on Freeview in Wales. The answer is surely to feed the audio (via the L+R phonos probably) out of a set-top box into a hifi or speakers.

The "basics" from Llandrindod Wells are the Public Service channels. If they had no Public Service obligation you would likely not have them. See here for an explanation:

becky asked "surely as the freeview channels are free why are they not available on freesat?"

I think it's the extra cost of satellite broadcasting and getting onto the EPG. Some of the FSFS services (PickTV+1, for example) can be added as an "other channel" to most Freesat receivers, but they aren't on the Freesat EPG, so won't appear unless you add them.

MJ Ray: It's not a question of the EPG listing charge for most of the not-on-Freesat channels.

The main culprit is UKTV, which is half-owned by the BBC and half by Scrips.

According to "people who know", the BBC doesn't wish the UKTV channels to be on Freesat, because UKTV is supposed to keep a "foot in each bucket" so to speak.

Thus, UKTV is subscription on Sky and Virgin, but has free-to-air channels on Freeview.

I think it also has to do with copyright. Freeview is limited to line of sight i.e the UK. Freesat can be picked up over most of Europe. Broadcasters and producers want control over who can receive their channels and programmes. There are ways around all this as many ex-pats know using the internet.

If you have a Sky Box for FreeSat then you'll get more channels that if you use a generic FreeSat box. Simple as. The Brazillian Record channel 801 is available with no subscription using a second hand Sky Box. However, if you use a non-sky Freesat box there is no way to get the channel. Simple as. Solution is to get a Sky box secondhand but you will lose the record feature unless you want to pay a subscription. S

leslie rainer:
You could buy a Freeview set top box and connect it to your TV. You would then have both Freeview and Freesat. Personally, the only channels not on free satellite TV that matter to me are Yesterday and Drama.

Forgive my ignorance, new to all this. Just switched from Sky to BT Vision, and a little disappointed with the channel line up. My postcode is NP11 4EL and according to the postcode checker I can only get freeview light. I've been looking at the freesat channel line up and it looks a fair bit better. All my Sky equipment (dish & cables) are still in place. Is there some way of combining the 2 through one set top box? Can the Youview box I have show freesat somehow? Or would I need both my old sky box AND the youview box? Alternatively, is there any realistic way of me getting channels from the Wenvoe transmitter? Any other suggestions? :-/ Thanks
