TPOs require permission to remove trees, but that does not rule out every possible pruning/shortening.

TPO's do not prevent all work on the trees. Consult your local Council PLanning Officers to seek their views telling them that the trees in question are affecting your TV reception detrimentally. They could decide to allw some pruning, especially if the health of the trees is suspect. A good Tree Surgeon would be able to advise.

Apart from having a satellite finder, we have everything we need to receive programs via satellite dish/technomate box, scartcable, aerial cable etc. We live in Scotland in East Lothian (town Tranent) and are trying to receive German TV programs. Can you give us any help please ?

Reception of pan-european satellite services in the UK can be a bit of a problem. The further north you are increases the difficulties. Tranent is sufficiently far north of the targetted area that you are likely to need a larger than usual dish. I would suspect that even a 60 cm dish may not be sufficient for reliable reception.

I would advise contacting a supplier who deals with satellite reception for services other than Sky. There should be such businesses in Edinburgh and they are likely to also offer 'steerable' dishes showing they will know more about reception of TV programmes other than those provided by Sky (which are meant to be UK only in the main).

When , if stations in Europe can be received with the right dish/direction/lnb and dvb box will we in Britain (Wales, England, Scotland) be able to watch RTE (Eire) stations as RTE viewers can watch BBC and Ultster TV now , If this were a copyright restriction how can it work ok one way but not the other ?
We can easily hear RTE Radio 1 on 252 kHz (LW) and on satelite together with other RTE radio (now moved from 567 kHz Radio Eireaan and 612 kHz RTE Radio 2 to VHF/FM) but Eire TV is blocked . If we (UK) are (still) in the EU is this fair if, with the right satellite equipement, we can watch numerous Frence, Spanish, Dutch stations. Since a boy I've enjoyed what was marked on the wireless dial as Athlone as splendid radio not spoilt by advers but complimentary to them - but I'd love to watch Irish TV here in England, please.
I understand theres a rather expensive way 'round the Sky Ireland viewing card racket but surely this shouldn't be necessary and must be a good move between the UK and Eire governments ?
I have yet to get a realistic answer to this .

Rog Parsons: RTE could not afford the increased costs for the rights to show material over the whole of the UK.
