I have TV, Sky+ box and DVD/VCR combo, how do I connect them up?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You need just TWO SCART leads:
- one from the SCART on the TV marked (1) or (RGB) connected to the Sky+ box's SCART labelled "TV"
- one from the SCART on the Sky+ box marked "VCR" to the first SCART connector on the DVD/VCR combo.
You can then view the stuff from the DVD by either pressing "PLAY" or putting the Sky+ box into Standby mode.

Would I be right in thinking that you have a SCART lead already connecting the Sky+HD box to your TV set?
If so, the alternative is to connect the the Sky+HD box to the TV set using an HDMI lead (there is no value in buying an expensive 'gold plated' one) and then connecting the VCR through the Sky box with a SCART lead between VCR and Sky box. That assumes your TV set has an HDMI input. Also note that not all equipment connected with HDMI has 'auto-switching' so you may have to manually select the correct input using your remote control so you can watch the Sky programmes and/or the VCR.

Check your Philips TV User Manual for how to set it to display the signals from the HDMI input. Not all TVs automatically switch to that so you may need to manually select it and the User Guide would tell you how to do that.
My Sky+HD box can show the ouitput from the VCR connected to it via a SCART. Your alternative is to obtain a SCART Extender that will allow the VCR to playback through the TV - but it will not record from the TV nor the Sky+HD box. These days very few people with a Sky+HD box need to record other than on that box. So the VCR would normally only be used for the playback of existing recordings on tape.

Elaine McNair: Your Sky HD box should be connected via HDMI if poss. If you've only got scart, then use that. But your DVD player also probably needs a scart connection. Look at the TV manual, to find the best combination.

Hi there, I wonder if you could give me some help please. I am trying to connect my LG RHT387H dvd recorder to my Sky+ box. On the sky box there are 2 scart sockets, 1 marked VCR SCART the other TV SCART. On the recorder I have 2 Scart sockets, 1 marked AV2 RECORDER, the other AV1.
At the moment I can view the Sky box when I select Scart 1 in the TV source menu and I can view the recorder by selecting HDMI 4 on the TV source menu. What I can't do is record any Sky (freeview) channels on the recorder. Has anyone any ideas for me to try please? BTW I do not subscribe to Sky I just watch the freeview stuff that comes with the dish that was already here.

DVD recordable discs, as I have so much motor racing material that I would like to record to DVD discs. I can
