Hello,
I have just returned to our place in Spain which is near Sax, about 50km inland from Alicante. We have a 2m dish in the garden, set in concrete, with nothing near it. Our free to air has worked well but on this occasion we have lost a number of programmes and cannot now get BBC2 or ITV amongst others.
I have tried to search for new channels and reset the box (Pace 1.0.55) etc. We are tuned to 11.778 V 27.5 2/3. Signal strength is just below the half way and quality near the top.
Can you please advise what might be wrong and how we can correct it and what setting up method we can use that gain us a few more channels? Has anything changed at Sky that could be the cause ie more blocked channels?
Thanks

Mike

Channel 4 abandons Freesat HD in TWO DAYS
Wednesday 21 February 2018 11:43AM

Hi,
I am sorry to see yet another channel disappear from Freesat for no other reason than what seems to be a squabble over EPG charges. Talk about taking your ball in.
As viewer in Spain I have recently lost all channels from 157( Dave) to 200 (BBC news). In an attempt to get them back I have bought a new Humax Freesat box and had my 2m dish realigned and there is no improvement.
The chap who did the dish said that the power to these channels had been reduced and the footprint moved North and if I lived in Iceland or Greenland I would be better off!!! He even showed me a coverage map that clearly showed this.
What the heck is going on?
You have a lot of viewers in Spain and probably half a dozen in Iceland why are you alienating us?
Is Freesat on the verge of collapse,? So what is happening? Can someone give me an honest answer?

The Spanish connection.
I can appreciate what you say about C4's advertisers being in the UK so they are not interested in us in Spain, but having moved the footprint North have they considered that there are considerably less viewers in Iceland and Greenland than Spain and if I am perfectly honest I have never been influenced by a TV advert to rush out and buy something and most come in so loud I just reach for the mute button!!!
No knowing about how all these things work I think there must be some other reasoning why the footprint was shifted. From where I am sitting I can see no reason for doing it.
My installer also said that power has been reduced, again, I ask why? Do users of a satellite pay on the basis of power consumed?
Is there any chance of ever getting my missing channels back and can anyone suggest what I could try. I always used to enjoy the Quest and Yesterday programmes and mourn their passing.

MikeB: Hi
You suggested that I am not paying for my TV. You are absolutely right, but surely isn't that the whole idea for FREEview?
Can you explain what my installer meant when he said 'they have shifted the footprint and reduced the power as well'?
Why was the footprint moved?

Hi,
I've been called a lot of things in my life bit I have never been spillage before!!

Their attitude seems a bit petty to me but what can I do about it? I hear that Iceland can be quite nice.

When I first heard this is was very surprised. My local broadcaster in Southampton seems to have no end of different presenters of the news, weather and local affairs.
If they had a couple off for whatever reason no one would notice. Plenty more to call on.

As usual Covid is being used as an excuse to cut services, put people out of a job and anything else they can think of. The BBC is no exception.

The access to the temporary mast site is stalled because of a bit of heather. I find this absolutely incredible in 2021.
There are millions of people without their favourite channels and radio and heather is taking priority over restoring their signals. You have said that the area is huge so what is the problem with making a site of a few acres and an access road in the so called huge area?
If some heather is destroyed in the process so be it. Given a few years it will grow again. If you are that worried about it you can transplant some from another area to get it going.
