Alison Barry: Hi. Alison. You say you've moved, but have you thoroughly inspected the tv aerial installation at the house you've moved into? This should be one of the first things that a keen tv viewer should do as soon as he or she has moved. Is the aerial likely to be more than ten years old? If so, it might well need replacing. even if quite new, is it pointing in the correct direction? It should be pointing slightly North of East. Even the most professional installations don't last for evermore! What is the condition of the cabling from the aerial down to the room in which you have positioned your lovely new Samsung? What are the connections like between the aerial cable conductors and the coaxial connecting plugs and/or sockets? You need to investigate all of these things. What readings for signal strength and signal quality are you getting on the multiplex which is playing up? Hope this advice is helpful, Richard, Norwich.

Trevor Irwin: Perhaps Digital One was putting out temporary test transmissions of its commercial stations from Armagh before deciding whether or not to include Armagh amongst its Northern Ireland DAB radio transmitters.

Trevor Irwin: Hi, Trevor. That's interesting. It does rather seem as if Ofcom has tended to treat Northern Ireland rather as if it were a county in England rather than a principality in its own right! After all, Ulster is at least the area of all of the East Anglian counties of England put together, Richard, Norwich.

A SAUDERS: Good Morning, A SAUDERS. As you may know, the Weymouth transmitter is a 'Freeview Lite' transmitter, and as such will only ever carry the public service broadcasting (PSB) multiplexes and not the commercial (COM) multiplexes. It is not economically viable for broadcasters to even bother to approach Ofcom to request for any changes to the 'Freeview Lite' arrangements because these transmitters serve such a small proportion of the population as a whole. The only 'Freeview' way to be able to view the full set of channels available is to be able to receive one of the 30 Full Freeview transmitters which transmit the COM7 & COM8 multiplexes. There are another 50 so-called 'Full Freeview' transmitters that are not really 'full Freeview' because they don't carry COM7 & COM 8. For some viewers, it is impossible to receive a GENUINE 'full Freeview' transmitter even with a very tall aerial pole, a high gain aerial and signal amplifiers, because whatever measures they take, they are simply out of range of one of these 30 transmitters or there are terrain issues that prevent reception. For some viewers, however, a more sophisticated and EXPENSIVE reception installation is technically feasible and for such viewers, they consider it to be a worthwhile investment in order to receive additional channels. Trevor Irwin: Hi, Trevor. Isn't the Armagh DAB transmitter just carrying the BBC National DAB multiplex on VHF band III block or channel 12B? If it is also carrying D1, the first national commercial multiplex or a local DAB multiplex for Armagh, you need to let this site's owner, Brian Butterworth know so that he can update this site's entry for Armagh DAB.
