Julie - SKY will disable the recording ability of your receiver once you discontinue subscribing. You will only be able to view your ITV recordings during the period of notice of cancellation. If you want to continue to have the same recording ability you will need to purchase a "Freesat" receiver. These are aVailable from Argos, John Lewis Curry's comet etc and are a straight swop over with your SKY box. Having your own receiver means no subcriptions - this serivce is backed by the BBC and ITV.

Andy - Brian, from reading I may be picking up this wongly but were you meaning to suggest a "Freeview" box rather than a "Freesat" one here as you seem to indicate utilising the two spare LNB out connections. Thought I would mention just in case Andy, rushes out for a "Freeview" HD plux box.

Daniel - This could be (A) Suspect conection at either the receiver end or the LNB where water ingress in the cabling may be the problem. (B) Your dish requires re-configuration to peak the signal (C) Faulty PSU - power supply unit in the receiver. This applies particularly to Thomson boxes and some others where the capacitors are failing.

Emily - You need an External Aerial as the BT vision box requires A Freeview signal input.

Matt - If your getting all channels on the HD box then the dish alignment is OK It then comes down to either a faulty input connection at the receiver and or at the receivers connection to the LNB Sometimes this can be water ingress or just a poorly sealed connection. It might also be the PSU (power supply) in the receiver itself - usually the beginning of capicitor failure. If it's the latter you can obtain a replacement PSU for the receiver at a reasonable cost From "Satcure" online. These are of a superior quality than the originals
and as the PSU sub boards are anchored by removal screws and ribbon linked to the main board it's quite a straight forward swop out. If you lack the necessary skills best to have tis checked out by a competant repair outlet if this is indeed the problem. Always unplug the receiver from the mains Before doing any checks.

David S.H - You could get yourself a "Freesat" or FTA receiver of course not SKY and if having a clear line of sight at ground level. discreetly install a dish on a patio stand or concrete anchored vertical metal post. I've managed this both effectively and discreetly.

P>s> Matt - I am assuming in my previous post that you've got subs packages covering both boxes?

Brian - Interesting article on the development of Pay per View options relating to "Freeview" BT Vision and "Freesat" New CI+ slot and CAMS. Seems Nagravision encryption on Freeview. Samsung new TV's and Freesat receivers seem likely to be equiped with "Neotion CI= plus" CAM slot. "What Sat magazine" February.

David Ramsay - It does seem that there is much frustration being pretty forcibly expressed by many many disgruntled viewers. It seems for a host of reasons. ie:- Switchover issues - no information - poor information - mis-information - ongoing transmitter issues - introduction of HD to the system - some set top boxes not fit for purpose - little foresight given to design in terms of an acceptable level of future proofing - not solely in my view the fault of receiver manufacturers. Briantist in an earlier post describes issues with Medip as a "Cock - up", but Digital Switch-Over issues as far as I can see extends much much wider in terms of planning strategy - technical issues likely to be encountered or unforeseen - unrealistic timescales - An abismal official public information strategy and one could go on and on and on. Satellite or Cable seems the more dependable choice option at the moment, but for many these options are unafordable and even with "Freesat" whilst a dependable platform it involves an inital outlay that some may see as an optiona that can't be met financially.
