Below are all of Gordon Insley's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.If one takes a closerlook then I would have to say that in defence of the outfit in the advert / flier (showing the chimney install) then more than likely the standard wall bracket shown could well be part of a previous install and only the aerial is new. The downlead cabling certainly is original as it it buried in the render applied to the chimney (as is the bracket).

BBC Freeview channels received in Derby (north area Duffield / Belper) from Mux1 Sutton Coldfield have just become unwatchable in the last 3-4 days. The website shows Max signal for mux1, yet the signal meter is showing about 30-40% signal and the pixelation and sound break-up is like never experienced before. Generally it's mux2 and muxA (ITV channels) that give occasional problems but they appear OK. So, viewing on all the other five mux's is OK only Mux1 is rubbish. Any idea's? Is there some sort of transmitter work going on again at Sutton Coldfield?

Ashbourne
Nicola ......
There is a transmitter close to the centre of Ashbourne, visible up the hill off Derby Road direction, you should be pointing / tuned to that.
With Asbbourne being in a 'ravine' there is no chance of receiving a signal direct from Sutton Coldfield. Check that the installer fitted a long enough mast to clear any adjacent obstructions like nearby buildings or tree's.

Dave - Derby
I assume your aerial points at the Sutton Coldfield transmitter. All the channels on Mux2 have been intermittent or non-existent in the Derby and near by localities for a few weeks. So there is nothing wrong with your equipment and it isn't the climate. Be aware that what Arqiva say and what is really going on in reality with the TV signal transmission can be the exact opposite. On the bright side there are but a few weeks to go before DSO when, allegedly, all these problems will be history.

Yesterday I had a to attend to a TV reception problem.
Scenario .....
Direct aerial connection to VCR and out via fly-lead to TV. Recorded signal via fly-lead on meter was 76dB with useless reception on ITV, CH4, CH5 etc and only 76 TV / radio channels tuned in.
Signal on direct cable from aerial was 68dB. Connected the aerial cable direct to TV and re-tuned to receive 97 perfect TV / radio channels. Sorted!
Fly-leads that are not double screened and of digital quality can be the cause of many reception poor problems. Watch out for that one!!.

JIM....
Depending on which part and which side of Castle Hill you are dictates what transmitter will work for you. If you are one of the first 2-3 houses up from the A6 then you have problems and you will likely need to use the Belper relay (or Freesat). If you are 8 or above then either S/coldfield or Waltham is possible. Waltham being roughly in the direction of Little Eaton/ Breadsall and S/C in the direction of Cumberhills / Kedleston.
The bottom part of Castle Hill is very steep so its really a house by house thing .... some can, some can't.
I know number 8 works OK on Waltham as I put the aerial up also St Alkmonds Cl works with either S/C or Waltham.

Does anyone know if the temporary transmitter at S Coldfield has been taken down and removed yet?
