Robert: If you have Yorkshire TV on button 3 your receiver has stored channels from Belmont at the beginning of the scan, in which case you should find Central East lower down in the channel list, usually in the 800s.Clear the channel list by doing a factory reset, then do a manual tune for the Waltham frequencies to restore the correct channel listing. If manual tuning is not possible start the scan with the aerial unplugged, wait until it has gone beyond C25 then plug the aerial back in - before C29 is reached, as this is the first of the Waltham frequencies.

Belper
Hi,Anybody here from the Belper area receiving Waltham or anybody else know if it's possible. I'm currently getting Midlands Today from Sutton Coldfield, I'd prefer East Midlands Today if possible as it's more relevant to where i live.
Thanks,
Jim.

Jim: Digital UK's Tradeview predictor suggests that the signal from the Little Eaton transmitter (which is a relay of Waltham) is "variable" at your location.

Since DSO I get pixellation/breakup EVERY night on ch54 stations (ITV, Ch4/5 etc) from the Waltham transmitter. The problem starts gradually from approx 8:00pm (time varies) and gets rapidly worse over 5/10mins or so to become unwatchable. I haven't fully verified this but I think the reception normalises late evening and never happens during the day as far as I can tell - signal strength is about 45-60% but appears to be quite volatile (but doesn't drop below 45%). I have an analogue era aerial installed in the loft. I didn't experience any particular freeview reception problems prior to DSO. I can't find anyone else with a simillar issue locally but most have external w/band aerials. I've tried clearing all the stored channels and manually scanning Ch54 but it makes no difference. My box is a Philips DTR100 which has it's foibles but seems better behaved otherwise since DSO(!) - besides which since it's OK during the day I assume it's some kind of bizarre atmospherics issue.

Jim: I'm not an aerial pro; just technically -minded.
I would expect that the reason that Waltham isn't shown on the predictor is because it thinks that you don't have a hope of receiving from it.
Probably the best guide as to what you might be able to pick up is to look around your neighbours and streets around where you live and see what their aerials are pointing at. I think that others will have been along the same road as you (tried to get local news), and thus if it isn't possible, expect Sutton Coldfield to have to be used. Of course satellite will give the right local news, so some people might use it for that and not be concerned that terrestrial television is not their preferred region.
I had a look down your street on Google StreetView and all the aerials seem to be on Sutton Coldfield.
Looking at the map, you're close to the Derwent, so I guess you're quite low down, which would probably explain why choice is limited. Belper itself is served by a relay. There are houses on Station Approach that appear to have aerials pointing at the Belper relay (they have masthead amps), likewise a couple on Castle Hill and Park Road. Interestingly, put DE56 4EA (postcode for Castle Hill) into the Digital UK website and it suggests Belper as being very likely. Same goes for Westminster Medical Centre which is but a stone's throw away from you. But your post code doesn't show Belper at all so it can't be far off.
One thing I would say is that there are quite a few trees in that direction...

Pete: I had an issue with picture freezing, particularly bad on one mux and it is a loft aerial. It was fine pre-switchover on all muxes, then after they all froze occasionally.
I adjusted the pole so that the aerial was further away from the roof. I have come to the conclusion that it was the roof felt/tiles being in close proximity. I should point out that my Sony shows higher signal strength than you have on yours. Mine is around 80 or 90% (not sure whether that is relevant).
Before I moved it the end of the boom was about 15 or 20cm from the roof and now it's around 40cm.

JIM....
Depending on which part and which side of Castle Hill you are dictates what transmitter will work for you. If you are one of the first 2-3 houses up from the A6 then you have problems and you will likely need to use the Belper relay (or Freesat). If you are 8 or above then either S/coldfield or Waltham is possible. Waltham being roughly in the direction of Little Eaton/ Breadsall and S/C in the direction of Cumberhills / Kedleston.
The bottom part of Castle Hill is very steep so its really a house by house thing .... some can, some can't.
I know number 8 works OK on Waltham as I put the aerial up also St Alkmonds Cl works with either S/C or Waltham.
