A bit like ITV used to be a network of separate companies, i.e. Westward, Southern, Yorkshire, Granada etc. (all separate companies); they were thus more frequently referred to in the applicable areas by the applicable regional name rather than the generic name ITV / Channel 3.

Are the news and children's channels really changing logical channel numbers on Freeview today? When I tried retuning my Panasonic DVD recorder breakfast time this morning (shipping condition followed by full retune) the kids' channels were still in the 70s and news channels in the 80s after the retune.

Gerry, I'd try retuning again this evening. Perhaps not all the muxes at Limavady were ready at 6:30am.
The day of DSO Stage 2 in April 2010, I tried retuning breakfast time and got nothing from the Bath relay. Even the BBC SD channels which I had from Bath the previous fortnight had gone. When I tried retuning again in the evening I got PSB1 (ch. 25) and PSB2 (ch. 28) from Bath relay successfully.

Why are they increasing the transmission powers of the muxes at several transmitting stations?

Valerie, if you are picking up from Rowridge, is your aerial still horizontal, or have you had it reset to vertical? If it's still horizontal, perhaps it would be worth getting it set vertical, in order to get the COM muxes at full strength (same as the PSB muxes).

If the Whitehaven relay serves 20,000 homes that's a lot for a relay, indeed more than some Scottish main trainsmitters which broadcast the full range of Freeview muxes. On those grounds, Whitehaven ought to have got the full range (3 PSBs and 3 COMs). As I've said elsewhere, at the very least, of the relays which were analogue only until switchover, the ones which serve 20,000 homes or more (e.g. Whitehaven, Bath) should have got all 6 muxes.

Even if a 4G signal in the channel 61-68 range, and the TV transmitter you pick up from uses channels 52-60, wouldn't the TV or Freeview box be able to distinguish 4G signals from Freeview signals? Surely 4G signals will be a totally different format to Freeview (DVB 8K) signals.

I guess that coverage map is only a prediction. The best bet is to wait until the channel launches and rescan your Freeview receiver to see if you can get it. It may not be quite that simple, you may need to get an aerial rigger in to do a signal test to see if you can get the extra mux from Winter Hill, and if it's strong enough maybe fit a new aerial.

Why is CBBC Channel changing to 73 on Freeview in Tyne Tees and Ulster regions? Even in those two unswitched regions, it shouldn't be necessary to change the logical channel number of CBBC Channel temporarily from 70 to 73.
