Arqiva press release on Oxfordshire switchover | Switchovers

Since the Oxford transmitter upgrade on the 28th Sept 11 I've lost all the channels that have been moved on to C59 (Dave, E4+1 etc). My box is showing no signal on that channel and I notice from the map when you click on that channel there doesn't appear to be any transmitter serving the the oxfordshire/Buckingham area.

Is this going to be rectified, can I get my channels back another way?

I have tried the full factory reset as described a number of times. I have also removed my signal booster from the circuit as suggested but still no Mux C59.

As it happens, without the signal booster now the signal appears to have improved, but I'm just getting nothing on C59.

Are there any digital boxes that could struggle after the switch over?

Thanks

I've found this article TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice which suggests my box may have a problem,

"Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes

Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:

Sharp TU-R160H
Humax 9200T
Thomson DTi 1000

The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002"

My box is the Sharp one mentioned. It's only C59 I don't get, I don't understand how I can add it manually. I've gone into Manual Channel Scan and typed in 59 but the signal received is None.

any ideas?
Thanks (MK181JE)

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your suggestions, I have tried partly plugging in the coax but there's no glimmer of signal on C59 still. My booster is not variable controlled so I can't attenuate the signal using that.

I have also tried plugging the aerial into the TV's inbuilt tuner which returns the same results so as you say it's not a fault of my digital PVR.

The signal strength of the channels I am receiving is only medium-good so it's not receiving it full strength which makes me wonder if it could be too strong to block a channel after all?

I appreciate your on-going support.

Kind regards,
Simon

Hi Jb38,

When I say there is no glimmer of signal on C59, I mean that when I go into manual tuning and select C59 the signal strength comes back as "none".

I'll ask my neighbours if they've experienced any problems although I think most are on Sky.

Please let me know if you have any more thoughts.

Many thanks,
simon

Hi JB,

I've just checked C55, the signal is showing as "good" on the manual tuning signal strength bar and I've checked Smash Hits! which broadcasts on that channel, which appears fine.

I have also plugged my aerial into my Samsung TV which has an inbuilt tuner, and likewise it can't find any signal from C59.

Many thanks,
Simon

Thanks JB,
To confirm there are no sky boxes or VCRs in the circuit. The aerial plugs straight into the box, and the box via HDMI into the TV.

It looks as you say as if there may be blind spots at 8 mile intervals, but strange that no one else has reported an issue. I must go and find out from my neighbours and report back!

Many thanks,
Simon

Dear all,

Sorry I've been away with work for a couple of days. tonight I've returned and the channels on C60 are unwatchable.

the signal strength is fluctuating between poor to very good and this is causing all sorts of skipping of the picture. I realise that atmospheric conditions play their part and that a large low pressure system has moved overhead in the past 24 hours, but would this not exclude the 'signal too strong' theory? (I still have no C59 at all)

None of my channels have had a 100% signal ever, and I'm thinking about putting my signal BOOSTER back into the circuit tomorrow if the channels remain unwatchable.

Any thoughts? Many thanks,
Simon

Hi all,

An update from me, so I have just tried the coat-hanger as an aerial test (after a full factory reset) and confirm that I get no signal on any channels.

I then plugged my roof aerial back in (with no channels tuned) and can confirm that I still get no signal on C59, whilst the other channels receive their signal as before.

The fluctuation of the signals received on almost all the channels makes me want to plug my signal booster back in as this affects their viewability (clearly not a real word!).

Since this switch over last week I have lost all the channels on C59 and my viewing experience on the channels I do receive has been downgraded. It's hardly progress!!

Any help gratefully appreciated.
Simon
