sarah lee: Have you lost reception on all channels? Are there any in the 800s of the channel list that still work? If there are, it would suggest that your tuner could have stored the wrong set of frequencies at some point, and due to seasonal changes to reception conditions the signal level has now fallen below the threshold for reliable reception. If you could borrow a Freeview box that you know to be working you could get some idea whether the problem is with your aerial/the incoming signal or an issue with your tuner.

Elizabeth Dixon: Does the apartment block have a communal aerial which includes a feed for DAB radio? If so it is quite likely that reception of out of area signals is possible via the TV aerial point, despite the signals being too weak to receive via the telescopic rod aerial on a portable radio. If the original door camera had old poorly screened coax and was connected to the communal aerial leakage of the amplified signals could have enhanced your DAB reception. If the radio has a socket for an external aerial try connecting it to the TV aerial point, or an outlet specifically marked for DAB, if there is one.

andys: The Sky box will receive the free to air channels without a viewing card in the same way that a Freesat box or generic satellite box does. Mind you, although 100 channels sounds impressive many are either shopping channels or regional variations for BBC1 and ITV!

EVELYN MACDONALD: If you are receiving from Balnaguard, according to BBC engineering information, service was restored at 08.03 this morning - 21st November 2013. This also applies to dependant relay Blair Atholl.

Sheena Blake: Any of the readily available satellite receivers will receive the free-to-air channels (even a Sky box without a subscription). Connect a satellite receiver to the cable coming through the wall and link it with a HDMI or scart cable to the TV. The choice of lead will depend on what sockets are supplied on the TV and satellite receiver.

david: BBC3/CBBC and BBC4/CBeebies have already begun testing free-to-air on satellite. BBC News HD will follow when red button commitments have been completed. Regarding commercial broadcasters there has not been any information released as to which, if any, services are taking slots on the COM7 or COM8 muxes but it is already the case that the HD services of ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and Channel5 are subscription services on satellite and that is unlikely to change as long as the SD version has to be transmitted for the benefit of viewers who own SD satellite receivers. Channel 4 has expressed an interest in taking two slots on one of the extra Freeview muxes, but has not said which services they intend to simulcast in HD.

Russ Dring: Yes, of course I should have mentioned Al Jezeera who have led the way with COM7. I am not aware of any HD service being planned by them for UK satellite though. Interestingly, Russia Today (English) is on HD on satellite, but as yet do not appear to have similar plans for Freeview. It has to be said, that in the light of no interest being shown by commercial channels when a slot on PSB3 was up for grabs, there is at best a very cautious approach to increasing the level of HD coverage on any platform.

Syd Wall: All boxes scan from UHF C21 to C69 when searching automatically for channels. Many will put the first set of channels found in the "normal" positions of the channel list then put any subsequent channels that are identified as having a regional variation in the 800s. A few tuners will put the last set found in the "normal" positions, displacing those found first into the 800s.There are even some that sort out the strongest signal for the main channel list then put the alternatives in the 800s, to the annoyance of viewers who struggle to pick up their local region whilst getting full strength from a neighbouring region. The latest tuners give an option to choose the regional preference when two or more regions are identified, however I have heard of cases where the correct BBC1 and ITV were placed at "1" and "3" but the rest of the channel list was filled on a first come first served basis with channels from the wrong transmitter! Manual tuning is really the only method guaranteed to enter the correct frequencies for your particular requirements.

john: There are only five frequencies from Sutton Coldfield if you have a standard definition box. Can you change the guide to 8-day Freeview? This is a solution in some cases of lost EPG.
