VALERIE: If you find that the problem is occurring at regular times of the day it might be worth keeping a diary of each occasion, noting the time and channel(s) affected. It may be that a pattern will emerge which coincides with events in the area such as a shop opening, or a neighbour returning home. Boiler ignitions and thermostats are of particular importance when looking for interference sources. To reduce the chance of interference being picked up the use of double screened coax (including flyleads) together with an aerial (if using a yagi type)that incorporates a balun is recommended. However, if the aerial is pointing at the interference source there is really no effective solution short of repairing or replacement of the offending equipment.

Kim: If you are unable to find the PSB2 multiplex, (which carries ITV1/2, C4, C5 etc) after you have turned the Sky box on, it is possible that the RF output of the Sky box is set around C38/C39 which clashes with the frequency of C39+ which is now used at Moel-y-Parc for PSB2. If this is the case you will need to change the frequency of the Sky box RF output to a clear channel, or at least one which is away from those used by M-y-P. I would suggest C63 or C68, but these could be put into use shortly for 4G mobile, so possibly C56 is worth a try.

Steve: Angus is 350 degrees (10 degrees anticlockwise of North) from your location. Set the aerial for horizontal polarisation.

Phil: To receive all the available muxes on Freeview you need to receive signals directly from Crystal Palace. Use a group "A" aerial ( or a log periodic at your location) set for horizontal polarisation for reception of Crystal Palace. The Otford relay transmitter is only intended to be used by viewers who are unable to receive Crystal Palace directly. It only carries the PSB muxes, as part of the requirement for BBC/ITV/C4 to serve all populations over, say, 500 homes. Smaller communities came to be included towards the end of the analogue relay building program, most of these sites were converted to carry the three PSB muxes at digital switchover. The COM muxes do not transmit from these smaller sites as there is no legal requirement to do so, and the mux owners declined an invitation to serve more sites as transmission costs would have increased out of proportion to the number of extra viewers served.

Keith Smith: What is the make/model of the TV in question? Does it have a DVB-T2 tuner built in, or is it simply marked "HD ready"? Generally speaking if reception of SD BBC1 is OK the HD transmissions will be receivable from the same transmitter, subject to the TV having a suitable tuner.

adrian_tcp: Yes, the prongs (directors), the dipole (where the coax is connected) and the reflector (the plate or set of rods at the back end) are all vertical. The boom of the aerial should be horizontal or have a very slight tilt up towards the transmitter.

OliverD: Can you select 10B manually, then store any stations found? It might be that the autotune range starts at 11A on some receivers.

Gary: This suggests that you are receiving BBC channels from more than one transmitter. There is possibly a BBC1 in the 800s that is pixilated, that will correspond with the BBC2 and BBC news channels that you currently have at positions 2 & 80 in the channel list. Check on the signal strength screen for BBC1 which frequency is being received, then do the same for BBC2. If these are different delete the poor BBC channels, if possible, then do a manual tune on the frequency that gives good reception. If individual deletion of channels is not possible you will have to delete the entire channel list, then do a manual tune for the correct set of frequencies for the transmitter that the aerial is pointing to.

J Eaton: Check that the DVD recorder has tuned in SDN from Waltham on C29 rather than Sutton Coldfield on C42. If your aerial is a group C/D type, or has poor gain at the lower frequencies, it is possible that the signal level is just below the threshold for reception on the DVD, so was overlooked in favour of S/C when scanning for channels.

pat : The satellite dish is only suitable for reception of satellite signals. Connecting a Sky box (without a subscription), a Freesat box or a generic satellite receiver, as sold by a number of supermarkets, will offer reception of the free-to-air satellite channels. If you wish to receive Freeview channels you will need a UHF TV aerial connected to your Freeview box or TV as the frequencies used for these transmissions are different to those used by the satellites which are receivable on a Sky dish.
