Hi,

I note that Whitehawk Hill appears to supply ITV to those living in Saltdean.

My aerial points towards the Saltdean transmitter (as most do in my area) and away from Whitehawk. I get good reception on all channels.

Can I assume that I receive ITV from Saldeean.

On a related point, I get good reception on all channels. But I have noticed that I get lower bit rate errors on C55 cf. 54 (if I am interpreting the horizontal bar correctly). Can you explain?

Thanks

PS. I have just noticed that I receive ITV + 1 from Southampton. My aerial also points away from Southampton!

Hi,

I'll look at the links given.

In the meantime.

Heathfield is vertical, my aerial is horizontal, as all are in my area.

The whitehawk information came from the top of this page (PSB2).

I don't think I get COM multiplexes. I don't know what they are!

My channels: B1 (55); ITV1 (54); ITV+1 (33)

The Southampton information I got from the top of this page.

I believe that pick up the signals from Saltdean. But was confused when I read the top of this page.

THanks.

Evidently, I do not get any programmes from Southampton.

'At switchover, all of the transmitters in the Brighton area will form part of the BBC South East region, rather than taking services from BBC Southampton.'

But am I really getting ITV1 from Whitehawk? My aerial faces Saltdean. Behind the dipole are two vertical bars (reflectors). These will reflect signals from Saltdean onto the dipole, but will relect other signals away from the dipole?

In addition, I also asked about bit error rates. Any comments regarding C54 vs. C55.

I cannot get C58. I believe that this is due to the fact that my TV does not support HD (I think that this is the case).

Regards.

In addition to the signals that I get from Saltdean.

If I can get some signals from another transmitter, but they are blocky will this effect damage the set in any way?

Can someone tell me how I could receive signals from a transmitter that is transmitting in a direction ca. 180 degrees from the front of the aerial (i.e, to the back of the aerial)? Some signals would hit the reflectors and the back of the dipole(enclosed in plastic). What is the role of the directors?

On another point.

On the tv screen, I have two horizontal boxes displayed (S and Q). I think that the more the boxes are filled, left to right, then in the case of S the stronger the signal. But in the case of Q (quality) does this mean greater quality, or more bit errors (hence lower quality)?

One more while I am here.

My Tv will automatically upgrade its software. I have been unable to find any references to the software or what it does, how it works etc. Has anyone come across a site that provides a general primer?

Thanks

Ok. Its quality that's important, but what about the meaning of the box?

What does ArqB mean? I know that it is COM6.

The transmission power is 4000W. Is this constant or does it drop, say in the early hours of the morning?

Thanks

Hi,

Recently, I received a messsage on screen telling me that new channels were available and advising me to retune.

I retuned (wiped out channels and used first time install). After scanning, I was surprised to find that I was picking up BBC1 as a very weak and poor quality signal signal on Channel 60, previously I was receiving a very strong signal (and high quality signal) on Channel 55.

I deleted Channel 60 and manually scanned Channel 55 and regained the original strong and high quality signal.

The only explanation I can think of is that my tv scanned the and found the highest channel for BBC1 (60) and then did not scan further for other BBC1 channels. In other words, it looks like the TV searches for the higher channel number. Am I correct?

Incidently, I could not see any new channels after the rescan!

Thanks.

Best wishes.

Thanks for responding.

Reception from Whitehawk is of very poor quality. Moving the aerial is not an option. In any event, no one around me gets reception from Whitehawk.

Hence, I use the saltdean transmitter.

My reason for posting was to ask why on re-scanning I received the poor quality 60 (Whitehawk), rather than the high quality 55 (Saltdean).

I deleted the 60 (far too blocky), and manually re-scanned for 55 (high quality).

Best wishes.

Just a couple of question regarding the recent upgrade.

1. What has been upgraded?

2. I note that Channels 70 - 85 have been moved. What should we do with the Channels listed 70 - 85?

Thanks
