My (Wigan-based) indoor aerial used on a pc gives excellent results - except for certain channels, i.e., Yesterday, Russia Today and Film4 to name but three contained in C55 (746,0 MHz) and whose power output is shown on this page as 'very low'. I have recently been told by Arqiva that all six muxes are being transmitted from WH at their full and final powers. But I see on this very helpful page that Winter Hill Arqiva B will operate at 12.5kW until 2011. Does this mean that it will be reduced further and will get even worse for my little aerial to drag in? Reception of these channels is variable - ranging from rotten to awful - freezing, blocking and stuttering being the name of the game. Can you tell me what is due to happen? Many thanks.

Briantist: Thanks for the warning about the Winter Hill Arqiva B date this year. But after that time does it mean that the mux will either shut down or output will plummet further? Getting a rooftop aerial for pc use, to me, is a last resort and I may need to forget about this approach. Why are some of those channels with the 'channel four' category so relegated?? Kind regards.

Dear Briantist. COM6 ArqB is "very low" at 1000watts. As an Ashton-in-Makerfield viewer with a piddling, but otherwise efficient, indoor aerial I look forward to its power increase which you informed me about a year ago would go at fullest capacity next month. Is this still on schedule? I hope they haven't changed their minds.

Dear Briantist: I'm not sure whether this query really belongs to this forum - but now that digital TV reception has become the norm I am beginning to notice something peculiar - once upon a time anything recorded would naturally be expected to be visually inferior to live TV but I now find the opposite to be the case. I have noticed that the news from ITN - and to a slightly lesser extent the BBC news gives a poor picture with poor definition and an old-fashioned black cameo effect on outlines, whilst those programmes which are obviously recorded have a first class resolution. A further example was this morning's "The Wright Stuff" which I believe is live and has a very pretty 'receptionist' with lovely teeth and lovely smile who looked (at least, on my TV, as though she had just devoured a plate of spinach. Not pretty! Beginning to wonder whether my TV was going on the blink, this very programme's commercial immediately followed and the picture quality was (for as long the commercials were showing) absolutely perfect. I would appreciate your comments on this phenomenon to decide whether it is I who is at fault or whether something has 'crept in' here. Sorry for this long-winded epistle. Kind regards

My postcode is WN4 9LG and I have recently attempted to retune, as per broadcast instructions. Apart from losing channel 8 - which was planned to be "local tv", and finding that the intention of channel 100 - planned to be a Freeview information page - still remains as the first in the adult lineup. I had also noticed that Yesterday and Dave did a number swap, but I recall seeing that changeover pre 19th Sept '12. I use two Philips digiboxes model DTR 220. Is the digibox responsible for this non-event? Also the intention to show channels 101-120, reserved for HD didn't budge but I put that down to having a ordinary Freeview receiver. Can you help? Advanced thanks.

Well, that seems to be all the channel numbers for now . . . but wait . . . channel 8 is still proving elusive. Or is it something I've done wrong?

Basically I have absolutely no reason to give adverse comment or to complain since I enjoy Freeview transmission on my pc with the aid of a very simple indoor aerial. After Yesterday channel and a few others were increased in power about two years ago everything became just perfect . . . until the recent changes in channel numbers came about. Now I find that with the same humble equipment that all of those channels associated with ARQB have become unwatchable. Sorry if I seem ungrateful but this is how it appears to be. Is there a fundamental reason for those under ARQB have becoming icky? Yours faithfully WN4 8LG

jb38: Thanks for your information. On my little receiver, a WinTV Nova stick (am I being too ambitious?) there does not appear to be a facility for a signal check. The peculiar thing about this is that all of the channels which have now become unwatchable show a frequency 746,000 MHz. Is there any significance in this? It seems quite a coincidence in my lay thinking. Any further suggestions? Would be much appreciated. Kind regards

I appreciate that an awful lot of activity is taking place, i.e., 4G and all that sort of rot, but can anyone explain why, recently when attempting to automatically set up channels on new TVs found that Channel 62 (which apparently takes in all of the BBC channels) has completely ignored Winter Hill and instead given me crummy or nil reception from Yorkshire (ID302d). Right now the only way I can be in possession of all available channels is to manually search. Not that much of a problem but I'm still curious. My postcode is WN4 9LG.

KMJ Derby: Thank you for your very detailed reply, but with respect, I can't say that I fully understand it - mainly because it appears from your explanation that, for my area, the true BBC source is Emley Moor. I had no idea where Emley Moor is situated but on checking I find it is near Leeds. Now, this Yorkshire-located source for BBC is probably the culprit for my poor to non-existent reception. However, when opting for manual channel selection the situation is well and truly corrected, and everything in expected channel number order, by achieving Winter Hill's output for everything, including BBC programmes, and this being confirmed by checking the signal information. I don't know whether I'm just slow on the uptake here or what . . . Kind Regards
