Below are all of Richard's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.I want to record from my Panasonic TV which has Freesat built-in.
The TV has a record facility but I can't seem to get it to work with my VCR (via Scart lead) and it is no good for HD.
I have two feed leads from my Satellite dish: one for the TV and one for an old Sky Box. What's the best option - A. to get a HD DVD recorder or B. get a Foxsat PVR? I plan to connect with an HDMI lead to the TV and presume either would work 'straight from the box' or maybe not?

Thanks for that, Chris. Yes, the VCR is a Panasonic with Q-link and the TV, also Pansonic, has a Viera link so when you select a programme on the TV you have the option to View or Record.
There are several pages in the manual as to how to do it so will have to try again. My other unasked question was with regard to a Foxsat PVR: I have 2 satellite leads so if I want to record 2 programmes do they both have to plug into the Foxsat PVR and then linked to the TV by HDMI or is it one in the Foxsat and one in the TV? I suppose the easy way is to buy the PVR and find out for myself!

I have a newish Panasonic HD TV with Freeview built in and have good reception from Sandy Heath which is near to me (postcode MK45)
I have done your 'Freeview reset procedure' but there are no HD channels listed (channels between 49 and 70 are blank) Is there something I've missed ? This TV also has Freesat and I can get 5 x HD channels via the dish so it's not vital but I am of the 'belts and braces' brigade and I am also curious!

Thanks for that jb38. I live in a park home so the aerial is only 10 feet off the ground
and is a basic type without any fancy 'spoilers' and has no booster. It hadn't occured to me that the signal might be too strong but I'll plug in a cheap indoor aerial and try a reset as per your procedure. If that's no good I'll get an attenuator. The tv model is TX-L32V10B with Freeview and Freesat built in.

Adam B/jb38 Thank you both! Now I know and my natural curiosity is satisfied. As long as Freesat offers the same number of HD channels as Freeview (not guaranteed in the future I know) then I will not feel deprived.
I can always rely on getting a quick and understandable answer from you guys on UKFree.

I've just bought a Humax Foxsat PVR and am pleased with it except for the inordinate time it takes to boot up. This has the 2 sat dish feeds and connected to the TV by HDMI cable. If I were now to add a 3rd lead from the dish LNB and plug this direct into the TV I presume I will then be able to receive the 'Other Channels' listed on my Panasonic TV?
These are the non-Freesat selection and include a lot of different, mainly minority channels and, incidentally on Ch.247 Sky News.

Re: BBC World News.
Is there not a more useless programme for a Brit abroad?
The emphasis is on 'world' with very little home news.
In many hotels you have a choice of this or CNBC Europe or Russia Today as the only English language programmes. What a choice!
The bog standard BBC News would be far more useful and informative. But when did the BBC care much about the licence payers?

This is excellent news. Drama is my favourite non Freesat channel. Maybe Gold will follow eventually?

Do I deduce from all this that, at present, there are no benefits to be obtained from upgrading to a 4K
televison set?
My existing Panasonic is a HD ready one that can receive HD via my Humax Freesat receiver but
can't show Freeview HD (not a great problem if you have Freesat).
If I upgrade to BT Infinity would that mean I could get BT Vision reception in HD on my existing set?
Is BT showing selected football in 4K yet?
So many questions for the non-tech person!

For the technically challenged could someone explain exactly what a 'Dog' is? If it is a logo in the corner what is the fuss about? If it is something else then please enlighten me.
And while I'm on what is going on with BBC HD? You get a RED screen when national HD switches to local programmes and you have to change channels - this is annoying unless you are on the 'default' local programme. Why can't they just automatically switch to non-HD just for the local progamme?
